New Year's eve is far more depressing.

People walking around hugging strangers like something amazing has just happened, counting down before midnight to a day that's one closer to going back to work. If you're really unlucky somebody will hand you a party popper to enjoy.

Just about 6-8 years ago I would have disagreed with your NYE view but these days I'm in 100% agreement.

I guess I've become a grumpy old man. Must have crept up on me since I retired..........

Agreed.

Why celebrate the arrival of the worst month of the year (by some distance); the prospect of becoming another year older, and the impending return to work ?

 

I would disagree - I think February is worse. That's when the SAD really kicks in and it seems the winter's never going to bloody end.

 

Mind you, my birthday's in January which might bias me slightly.

Only plus side of Christmas is I won't have to buy deoderant or shower gel for about 6 months...and i'm alright for socks...
