Monkeh
It is sad, but lets face the facts, unless it is someone (like me with my boy) who is intent on passing on the BCFC birthright on to their kids, then people havent had much reason to support either bristol team in the last 6-7 years. Only this season are we doing ok, but we have had some awful players over that time blagging a contract, and very few who can capture the imagination of kids. Liverpool have had torres and suarez in that time, and all the top premier league teams have had top players too who kids can admire. The people in charge of football in this city only have themselves to blame im afraid - just to quantify that, as a benefactor, SL has been great for the club, but he has been let down by the people underneath him and some of the players he has paid handsomely, in my opinion, and deserved better. our attendances increased when we got to the championship and held reasonably well when we got relegated and through the worse season I can remember as a city fan last season as well, they will be down this season because of the building work but we've held up well for a change, that being said the amount of media attention is to blame for more kids wearing man ure liverpool etc, the prem is rammed down your thoat every day by just about every media outlet
cider-manc
There are two obvious reasons why PL clubs shirt are so popular, especially the bigger PL clubs. It's largely down to TV exposure. 1)The PL is broadcast world wide via Sky and historically the bigger PL clubs have had a substantial fan base both in the UK and world wide. MOTD also plays a significant part in impressing kids. 2) There are a huge number of 'glory hunters' who enjoy their team doing well and buy the various PL shirts for themselves or their kids. It's all about the imagined 'prestige' that goes with success.Imagine wearing a Bristol City shirt around Manchester or Liverpool? Most of the locals wouldn't even know what league we are in. Why? Because Bristol City are and have never been a PL club. Had the team of 1970's established the club in the old first division and City been in the PL at the beginning then the locals of both the aforementioned City's would know. I was wearing my 1960's replica city shirt on the train once when a local starting talking to me about the previous days game assuming I was a Manchester United fan. Now I don't ever expect them to recognise that's it's a 1960's Bristol City shirt and I don't even expect them to recognise the Crest of the city of Bristol. However... I do expect them to be able to recognise that it is not a Manchester United shirt and it is not the Manchester Crest!!!!!
cider head
But I'd have thought they spend it on going on the lash not Liverpool away kits They got their shirts for their theme nights yet to have a title
Aizoon
There is (or was) a Liverpool FC shop in Liverpool city center. Go on! You'll be telling me next that there's a Manchester United FC shop in Manchester city centre
CotswoldRed
Most people buy these shirts because of they like the way it looks not the team it represents! Rubbish. If that was the case we'd see shirts from all clubs worn in the city because people like the designs. The internet gives you the option to buy shirts from any team, but that isn't happening. A lower league shirt will normally be cheaper too. When did you last see anyone wearing a nice red Crewe shirt in Broadmead?
Mike Hunt-Hertz
I loathe all these premshite bells. Spoilt, fickle, disloyal dipshits. You would never see them at Belle Vue on a Tuesday night in the 4th Div. Contemptible...I hope Sky pull the plug. Gloucester is terrible place for them...the ****wits are everywhere! YorkshireSection
It doesn't say the percentage of shirts bought in comparison to how many our club has sold shown though? I'd hazard a guess and it is a guess that there's more people in Bristol with City or Rovers shirts than there are with Newcastle shirts but If I'm wrong then it's perfectl? fair and clear why, even if it's a bit sad, neither Bristol club are very successful and entertainment if you call it that (especially at the Mem) is expensive, armchair fans are now more prevelant than ever,it's cheaper, warmer and more accessible, doesn't mean I agree with it though, it's just a sign of the times. I notice the stats are taken from one shop, a shop that doesn't even stock the local teams shirts, an interesting read but let's not be to upset, a nice advert for Sports Direct though! Remember Bristol is a City of vast demographics, and is the number one place to live in the UK, many people have upped sticks and moved to Bristol in recent years, it's a city that draws people from all over. When I used to live in London many of my mates were African, or had African parents, they all supported teams with a African (super star) player(s). If you go to Paris, you will see many more Arsenal shirts than you will PSG, at least you did in the Vierra & Henry days. Statistics are there for interpretation, it's not all doom and gloom, unless you want it to be of course!

Chivs
Yes some young kids who are born and bred in Bristol do support prem teams but you can also take in to account outside the area students and people who are working short term here. Bristol has a very large population of uni students that don't come from Bristol living here while they study so it could be the case a lot of them support Liverpool and while in Bristol they are buying their teams shirts here. Exactly this. Anyone who thinks differently should ask 'why is teensy tiny Cambridge so high up the lists'?

Mike Hunt-Hertz
I used to live in Crewe, and remember seeing some young boy in Morrison's wearing an old 80s BC82 top. Seemed quite surreal at the time. Did not see a huge amount of Alex shirts around and about.
