meltonmowbrayred
Could it be that our sloppy passing display against Port Vale was due in part to the Pitch? I thought that even with the round ball it looked pretty bobbly to me. We need the surface to be very flat as i believe this will give us an advantage against most teams I was also very frustrated with how long it took to replace the "oval" ball as it was clearly not rolling across the surface well ; wondered why the players didn't seem to notice. slartibartfast
Apart from the rugby ball,I didn't notice any probs (except the bloody egg chase markings).
redysteadygo1
But the pitch. / ball did not seem to affect Port Vale's control or passing.

Pickle Rick
The pitch was a fairly bobbly, more than what you could see from the stands. It especially affected Fielding on (thankfully, only) one of his kicks. Might have been the lights, but parts looked off colour too.
cottsciderarmy
Our pitch is probably one of the best if not the best in the league. It looks like a carpet and is like Premier League quality, unlike if you look at Fleetwood's, Bradford and Yeovil's which is covered in mud patches. Our pitch being so good is why we can play decent football and not result to hit and hope ball.
Kezman
I noticed a fair few times that passes played on the deck were bobbling up and down slightly. I was sat at the front of the Williams so was in a good position to notice. Don't think you can pick it up from the top of the Dolman or Ateyo. Super
looked fine to me and far better than some pitches I have seen in the Premier League this week. No excuse.

Rocky
I noticed wear and tear, Fielding sliced his kick once due to a last second bobble, also a few others suffered because of it.
meltonmowbrayred
Agree, we have had one of the best pitches around for many years and this pitch has looked good this year, however on Tuesday I did notice a difference, hence the question
#TerraceLad
Bristol has some of the best climatic conditions in the country for groundskeepers top level #lads the lot of them, Ashton Gate has aways had a fantastic turf, the open ground helps
The Bard
It looked like it was deteriorating to me. Thing is there are 3 football games and one rugby game on it in 8 days, so it could get worse quickly.
Fordy62
I thought it was absolutely awful. It looked nice but the bobbliness was terrible. I commented on the Matchday thread that it was as uneven as Bradfords the previous night. Shortly afterwards they changed the ball, not sure whether that had something to do with it? Super
most pitches are the same this time of year, Anfield looked poor the other night. same of both teams at the end of the day.
slartibartfast
I noticed wear and tear, Fielding sliced his kick once due to a last second bobble, also a few others suffered because of it. That was just before they changed the second ball, the first being lodged in the roof .
Wade Elliotts Quiff
It was the ball not the pitch, noticed it a few times but as soon as the ball had been swapped it stopped.
Leveller
It certainly looked very bobbly. Maybe the ball, though West Ham made the same comment (Fat Sam I think). At the time I thought it was sour grapes, but in retrospect perhaps not.
chowie
Interesting, I was not at this game or the West Ham game, I listened to the WH game in the car on Talk Sport and Alvin Martin mentioned a few times how bobbly our pitch was, at the time I thought what's he on about, our pitch is top notch. Maybe we do have a problem #bobblegate

I totally concur Kez, it did'nt look the best of surfaces after the rugby. Personally I wish Mr Lansdown would buy the MEM off the gypsys and turn it into a proper rugby stadium! Fatalist
Out of curiosity, what happens to the pitch in the summer? Traditionally it would be reseeded from scratch, but what happens to Desso pitch? Surely not another million quid for a new one?
ashton_fan
After the West Ham game Allardyce called it a 'bobbly pitch'. There were one or two bad bounces in the Port Vale game. Pitch probably not quite as good as last season (but there was no rugby then). However probably still the best in our league and this time of year is probably the worst, it should improve over the next few weeks as the weather warms up. bcfctim
In the front of the Williams it was very apparent first half, passes played along the ground were bobbling up shin high by the time they reached the player, and we were noticeably struggling passing it round the back. But I didn't notice any problems second half so it may well have been down to the ball.
cidered abroad
Out of curiosity, what happens to the pitch in the summer? Traditionally it would be reseeded from scratch, but what happens to Desso pitch? Surely not another million quid for a new one? The polypropylene twines that are inserted in the pitch do not show above the surface. They are there for the grass roots to intertwine with, so that the roots do not get kicked out. I am no expert on re-seeding football pitches but on my lawn one only needs to roughen up the top one centimetre of soil to sew grass seed. The expected life of this pitch is about ten years before it will need more attention than normal annual reseeding.
