CliftonCliff Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 Sorry if the title got you all excited there for a moment, but I just noticed on the BBC Sport site that Palace have signed Connor Wickam from Sunderland for the same sum that SC says he was recently quoted for a forward. Probably mere coincidence, but just wondered, like... (I am, by the way, aware that Sunderland paid something similar to sign him in the first place.)
TETBURY MASSIVE Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 Nope wasn't him...... The striker in question I'm led to believe was Andre Gray from Brentford.
B-Rizzle Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 No chance. I doubt we would have enquired for him.
CliftonCliff Posted August 3, 2015 Author Posted August 3, 2015 No chance. I doubt we would have enquired for him. I think you're probably right.
EmersonsRed Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 Wickham has a bigger ego than Ronaldo and you think I'm kidding. Used to live in Sunderland, bloke is a complete cock. Would never drop down to Championship again.
JoeAman08 Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 7m is ridiculous for almost any championship striker. Think Gestede will live up to it. Rhodes is worth a bit(not the 14m being bid for him tho). As far as who it could be maybe Andre Gray, doubt we'd enquire about Afobe after his January to May but he'd probably command a fee. Noah Dicko I doubt is 7m. It would have to be a case of asking for something you should know is out of your range though, wouldn't it? Other young experienced English strikers would be Zach Clough, Mason Bennett, Cauley Woodrow and Gary Madine. So truth is no one will know but best guesses would be Gray and Gayle and that's only if we are sticking with the U25 scheme

Connor Wickham however, is somewhat of a hero up here in Sheffield, we have a thread started about him most days on Owlstalk. Many managed to convince themselves he'd come back to us permanently, but wasn't he on about 50k a week or something silly at Sunderland? He's gotten far too much credit for his career so far, the only time he scored consistently was during his loan spell at us. Be interesting to see how he does at Palace.
TETBURY MASSIVE Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 That was better worded than the first time. Just my 'Opinion' mind.......
Guest OliKendall1 Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 I wouldn't Mind a Bid For Nahki Wells ! ... I think maybe a Bid for Leon Britton would Be a Pricey Bid ( I'm Unsure if he is Free )
djb6162 Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 No chance. I doubt we would have enquired for him. No chance or doubt , which one ? Either one you pick you are wrong anyway
citywest30 Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 No chance or doubt , which one ? Either one you pick you are wrong anyway Are you saying we enquired about Connor Wickham?
djb6162 Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 No.... My mistake I assumed robbo was responding to tetbury massive The reality is he was replying to the OP. Apologies
B-Rizzle Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 No chance or doubt , which one ? Either one you pick you are wrong anyway No chance would we be able to sign him. I doubt we even enquired for him. I doubt I'm wrong. Completely unrealistic target. Slight possibility we might have made a 'long shot' enquiry at some point but would never have been a serious target.
Kid in the Riot Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 Some people seem a little slow on the uptake...it was Gray...thread over.
Dastardly and Muttley Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 Some people seem a little slow on the uptake...it was Gray...thread over. That's what I'd assumed as well, although Loyal Red seemed pretty adamant it was Smith when you look at some of his posts.
Guest Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 Some people seem a little slow on the uptake...it was Gray...thread over. It was not Andre Gray, Brentford wouldn't sell their best player and top scorer having just missed out on the playoff final to the premiership to a team newly promoted from L1.
Red Skin Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 Think he means that how much he weighs! Correct.

Pretty sure Brentford are happily receiving offers for Gray. I honestly doubt he'll be at Brentford come September. New man in charge, new philosophy at the club. They're courting clubs for a lot of their 'stars'.

Yep, Brentford have sold Stuart Dallas to Leeds tonight. 43 apps. last season, so not afraid to ring the changes at Griffin Park.
JoeAman08 Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 Yep, Brentford have sold Stuart Dallas to Leeds tonight. 43 apps. last season, so not afraid to ring the changes at Griffin Park. Also, they've brought in 2 quality strikers from Europe. They aren't afraid to shake it up it seems with their new management and recruitment. Someone that fit last season may not this season.
JoeAman08 Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 I'd be wary of foreign strikers....sogurdsson at Wolves cost 3 million, top goal scorer in his league....did nothing and released. Well that Vibe I would be wary but that Hofman is an absolute steal without ever seeing him play in this division. 6'5 and skilled with the ball at his feet. he should thrive. And our only signing is foreign!!! So I will not be wary! Haha
JoeAman08 Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 Also there is no way Matt Smith was the 7m striker. He's like the 6th striker at Fulham at the moment. How anyone even mentioned him is beyond me.
JoeAman08 Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 Yes Ian. Thank you for being reasonable. Haha. If they could make 2 to 3 times what they paid for him just a year later, he'd be gone. That said, 1.5m is probably too much for us considering our strike force is already strong and we've spent big on a striker already.
BS2 Red Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 7 million pound striker? Akinfenwa, surely? Not enough love for this!

I think we still need another striker unless lingard signing means only one up top however we may well mix it up sometimes one upfront maybe away and other games two up front ? I wouldn't be surprised to see cotts mix it up a bit depending on signings . Also have to factor in we may get some money if bolaise gets sold or Albert .

I don't think we'd be in for him as he is a winger and he unlike Freeman isn't young and was less likely to be happy to change his position

Yes but just because we can rack up 13m worth of debt in regards to FFP, I don't think it's in the team's best interests to do so. I wouldn't mind spending another 1-2m on another striker but I'd really like us to sure up our midfield and defense first.
Nogbad the Bad Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 I don't think we'd be in for him as he is a winger and he unlike Freeman isn't young and was less likely to be happy to change his position No, I wasn't saying we were Mike, more using Dallas as an example of Brentford being willing to sell on established players and break up a successful team in the quest for an even more successful one using a different playing philosophy.
