Aizoon
As a lifelong supporter of the Glos I thought he deserved his own thread.Total respect. The man who changed Somerset from a joke into world-beaters.
Calculus
Very sad day. Saw him loads of times at Headingley and a boyhood hero of mine. Absolute legend.
B1ackbird
Botham spoke very fondly about Brian until it came to his driving, he seemed to think it was ok to drive and read a book at the same time, Botham said in his autobiography, he would prefer to walk than travel with him to away fixtures... Aizoon
I remember Brian Close and Tom Graveney defying the Windies quicks, Hall and Griffith, in 1966. Closey just let them hit him and Tom played them as if they were medium pace.
Robbored
Brian Close was probably the toughest cricketer of all. Stood up to a battering of fast bowling from the legendary West Indies pace attack without any of today's body protection. If he couldn't get his bat on it or avoid the ball he simply let It hit him. He showed no pain or even discomfort The West Indians had never seen anything like it. He earned their respect big time. At the close of play in the changing room when Close took off his shirt his team mates saw a mass of bruises from his shoulder down to his hip. One word - wow! Guest
Was quite a handy footballer but suffered from a couple of nasty injuries so I hear. Also read he was a scratch golfer with his right and 1-2 handicap with his left. Remarkable.
