Nicky Maynard back at the gate...

Given how the crowd managed to impact him during the West Ham home game - to the point of him being a hindrance to the other 10 and (imo) feigning injury and walking off with his tail between his legs -  if he starts I hope he becomes the target of relentless stick.

Lets all give him the reception he deserves !!!!!

what reception would that be? Wow there are some real sour grapes on this forum, I am sure on another Maynard thread someone wished his career would end, are you in that camp too?

all I remember about Maynard was a very talented footballer, who did all he could to keep us entertained. For me he was the best player during our last stint in the championship, and one of the most exciting players I have seen in my time following city.

can people not just let it go a little bit?

Sour grapes, nah I don't really care if I'm honest. But the 'reception' is a bit of a laugh and having seen it in effect against West Ham, I would strongly encourage it.

He was a lost rabbit in the headlights and whether he performed well for us or in some eyes ruined that by his conduct in the final year (which should not be ignored, especially that he barely walked around the pitch for us in the end), as fans he is opposition and shown a weak spot: he doesn't like intimidation. Crack on and enjoy in my opinion.

If he stays fit then we may have missed out on a great signing! The old Maynard and kodjia would be a deadly partnership, and what is he, 27?

Not even remotely did we "miss out".  Even had we been interested, he definitely would not have been.  You may just as well say we missed out on Bale when he went to Madrid!

We did match the fee,but not the wages

Great striker for City was Maynard - as good as we have had in recent times.

No sour grapes here

Happy to forget his sulky showings during 11/12 then? Won't forgive him for awful attitude. He may have had the ability but he is one of my most disliked ex-City along with Kilkenny and Foster.

I find it very funny how much his career has gone downhill. Karma.

I remember him being booed at Coventry on Boxing Day, scoring having a dreadful game at Brighton in a similarly dreadful team performance. If he was so petulant during 11/12 how did he manage to finish our top scorer despite leaving half way through the season?

Then again, people like yourself who perpetually trot out this utter bollocks are the same kind of people who would say someone deserves three years of injuries because he 'sulked'.

Because we kept playing him in hope that he'd do something. Instead we had to witness many half-hearted performances of a man clearly uninterested in playing for us.

I don't care whether he's been injured or fit, he's been sh**e regardless. Thanks for putting words in my mouth though.

As with any player he had some great games for us and some awful but rather than leaving on a high I remember him having some dreadful games at the end where he really didn't seem interested. Aside from whether or not he would have wanted to come back and whether he would have been welcomed back he most definitely would have been a gamble after some terrible injuries since leaving us.

Just another opposition player, I have no feelings towards the guy.

It's about our boys! COYR

Of course you are right....left us years ago and done nothing since

But I cant help thinking about the `'alleged" skiing injury that left us paying his wages for what seemed like ages and his attitude when he clearly couldn't care for our club that was paying his wages.

And the QPR away was one of the best goals I have ever seen.

But hate MK as a club and maybe the disloyalty he showed to us means he has found his rightful place.

Can't believe some of the posts I'm reading here! Yes, the way he left and the comments he made were unacceptable and in truth, he rightly deserves some stick. But some of you are forgetting he pretty much carried the team through the 09-10 season and excelled in what was a very poor team. Give the guy some credit.

Would that be the one for scoring 20 goals in a season to single-handedly keep us up?

No , it would be for the way he treated us in his last season when he could have just said he was leaving and let us move on and make us some money.

Are West Ham not planning to pay us that £1.5m they bought him for then?

So a player 'uninterested in playing' was played for half a season and still managed to finish the whole season as top goalscorer despite 'many half-hearted performances'. Bollocks.

I didn't stir your words at all. Look up what karma means.

1.5 when we could have trebled that if he'd been honest from the start , the man is a knob , end of .

Can you tell us when he told Colin Sextone, who rejected various offers from Leicester of his own volition, he would sign a new contract?

Keep bringing the unsubstantiated rubbish...

If you want to defend a man like Maynard carry on , I can guarantee if he plays the majority of the crowd wont agree with you .

The karma was how his career has panned out. It's not hard to understand that - I couldn't care less about his injuries.

He was our top scorer because we were absolutely useless that season. It was hardly as if he played well, he was a detriment to the team. Some attempted revisionism going on here. Maybe if Millen had stuck with the Pitman/Stead partnership that did so well in his first season and their performance vs Hull on the last day should have secured that to be the case, he'd have actually had some success that year, instead of pandering to the means of the arrogant **** that is Maynard. Think he turned up for two games that season (Southampton/Milwall away).

The fans that actually wanted the **** back in that pathetic thread last year are crawling out of the woodwork. Clearly have no respect for the club if they're willing to accept the way he treated us.

I would hazard a guess that those who are so negative about Maynard would also have celebrated Andre Grey getting an injury the other night.

Didn't see that , is it serious ?

He can be applauded when he runs onto the field & after the game ....  for his previous good efforts for the club.

As soon as the whistle goes, he will be playing for the opposition.  Which makes him fair game for stick.  As it seems in his case it will probably affect his game and help City.

Hamstring but not clear how long he's out for yet.

Well that's unlucky , I wouldn't slate him as he made his choice to join another team , most players would have done the same given the chance .

That was my point. Just as you had no logical reasoning behind claiming that fans happy that Maynard has failed since leaving City would have celebrated Andre Gray getting injured? It's just an odd post to make.

Not really, people hold similar views about that sort of thing on the whole judging by people I see on Twitter/here/Facebook. That City Till I Die Facebook group in particular.

Not necessarily you Jordan, although you may well do too, but lots that I see share these groups of  opinions which are pretty flawed.

He's playing for the opposition we should be giving everyone who comes to the Gate hell, players don't like it plus we can do with all the help we can get right now.

perhaps a little rendition of come on you reds or a song about a flag flying high every now and again may give a bit of help an all.

Pretty rare for anyone to get hell at the Gate, for some reason we have far too many 'nice' fans.  I have posted before that we never get into the linesmen and ref, give a linesman stick for every offside decision etc and he might just start to waver, but most of our fans are likely to nod in agreement with the decisions.  I have no feeling good or bad towards Maynard, but if giving him some stick from the off, until the final whistle gets under his skin and affects his performance, then its fair game, as it should be with any other player.

Is a Bristolian accent career threatening ?

News reader on the BBC News?!

Used to love Gareth Chilcott's utter refusal to reign his accent in when doing rugby punditry, his pronunciation of the French player Pierre Berbizier was legendary!

It should be (phonetically) 'Bear - biz - ee - ay' but not for our Gareth - 'Bear - biz - ee - errrrrrrrrrr' !

Loved it!
