Lanterne Rouge
Definitely not. Justice he missed it but so badly hit I wonder if the striker felt guilty about it.
Coxy27
Part of the ball looks like it would be over the line if you stood over it and looked down. Looks to me like the right decision was awarded. Stupid from the defender though, if you're not sure, belt it out for a throw and if the lino thinks it's out, you'll get the goal kick anyway. JamesBCFC
at the point he picked it up, the whole of the ball was not across the whole of the line, although the ball does roll back slightly and I think that before rolling back it may have been fully over. Either way you play to the whistle, it is not the players job to decide if the ball is out, and by the letter of the law it is a penalty.
Roe
He shouldn't be picking the ball up anyway because it's a corner to the other team. Didn't look fully over to me and more importantly not to the linesman either. Idiot.
Numero Uno
Think one or two need to visit Specsavers. Whether the lad should have picked it up or not the whole of the ball was clearly over the whole of the line.

Whether the lad should have picked it up or not the whole of the ball was clearly over the whole of the line.the fact the whole of the ball was over the line is surely irrelevant if the ref hasn't given a goal kick surely the game is carrying on?dont get why he has picked it up, 99.9% of players would kick it back to the keeper from there! RedYoshi
Definitely a penalty. The ball is a sphere, there is clearly a bit overhanging the line. Regardless, if the ref hasn't blown the whistle, you don't make that decision for them.Refer to most of Freeman's corners as well. If you think that ball was out, then you think most of his corners are illegal.
Fordy62
Yep. Correct decision awarded. Definite penalty. Not all of the ball was over all of the line. If the ball had been a cricket ball, and the line a stump, would it have dislodged the bails... Yes.
Frenchay Red
If the ball had been a cricket ball, and the line a stump, would it have dislodged the bails... Yes. That is a very good analogy :-)
redsquirrel
have to feel for the defender.yes he should have kicked it out ,a tap for a corner as he might get booked for kicking the ball away had the whistle blown. from where he was stood looking down,he probably saw enough grass between the ball and line to think it was over
Big C
Not quite the same but reminds of a game I was playing on the Downs, the final whistle goes on a pitch next to us and our full back thought it was our whistle and picked the ball up in our penalty area! BS4 on Tour...
I played in a local game once when our right back jumped up and caught a cross inside our area in the first minute to give away a pen.His explanation of "sorry lads I was in goal last week and just forgot..." didn't go down too well!
