Davefevs
The Matt Smith issue was to do with when the 93 day emergency loan ran out, i.e. outside the window. The maximum emergency loan is 93 days, we'd had our max! Bennett's loan deal will run out in the mid season window and we could then buy him or loan him again, but this time for the rest of the season (I think). Lanterne Rouge
That was it I think and we couldn`t sign him permanently for the same reason. The only way we could have was if Fulham had terminated his contract and he became a free agent which was never going to happen. Where did the three clubs in a season rule come into it though? I know it was a factor somewhere.
Davefevs
To be fair, until the Matt Smith scenario came along I didn't really understand the old fashioned loan vs the emergency loan. There is a limit of three clubs in a season, but I think a lot of us thought that might've been the case with Smith, but I think that was a red herring. I think all it meant was that he couldn't go anywhere else as he'd been with Leeds, Fulham and us (max of 3). Having said that someone might know the definitive rules. BobBobSuperBob
For anyone interested - there's a interview with Bennett on Talksports Program 'Up the League' today its on a podcast if anyone wants to listen he did get asked whether the move might become something more permanent but ducks the question quite smoothly Seems to be enjoying it tho
