22A Posted January 9, 2016 Report Share Posted January 9, 2016 Forty years ago Man C fielded a weakened team for a tie in the Texaco Cup. Not the League, or the FA, but the sponsors fined Man C for this as it had devalued their competition. Only a few years ago Wolves and Blackpool were fined for "fielding a weakened team" in the Premiership League games. In recent times we have become used to large squads and rotation of players. There's also been the complaint that Premiership teams no longer take the FA Cup seriously. This weekend; Liverpool made 11 changes and Everton & Stoke eight each for their cup games against lesser opposition. It might be pragmatic, but still seems insulting.
