1) he gets his team to play proper football.

2) the players at Barnsley pretty much demanded he was kept in charge after things went a bit dodgy this season, taking all the flack themselves and now they're one loss in twelve

3) he always played with passion for us, even when he wasn't the best & got slated left right and centre. I remember a 2-2 draw at home to West Brom. He led that team that day. He was immense

young manager, intelligent, speaks well

come on you reds

We actually beat WBA 2-1 that day (Feb 2010) and LJ scored from a Danny Haynes cross (I've still got it on video as it was a televised game). Just noticed that Simon Cox was playing up front for WBA.

OK don't think we're all going to agree on this one in fact whichever way the club goes someone is going to disagree.

My initial view was OMG what a mistake but hey I've had time to think.

Some think we are a yoyo club and will regularly be seen between the 2nd and 3rd tiers. Some think we are under achievers, the sleeping giant theory.

Personally I think we can be better than that. Whose to say we don't get out of this mess with little Lee at the helm. I think we're 1 player away from having the tools to do it.

If this happens Lee appears to have the nous and ability to improve things. However we won't know unless we give him a chance.

If the club offer it to him were not going to change the decision for them, so why not get behind the decision and if it's Lee give him the support he will need. Who knows what it will bring.

COYR.

I'm so glad you started this topic. I was beginning to think I was the only one who likes the potential appointment! Having briefly scanned other topics. If it happens, welcome back little Lee.

Always a chance he will turn us down. Most of the names people are spouting as alternatives - moyes, pearson etc - probably would. At least there is a reasonable chance he won't be the latest embarrassing 'thanks but no thanks'. But maybe not.......

If he reads this forum he will turn us down

Here, here! Some sense at last on OTIB (fancy that!).

Whatever one's opinion is of the imminent appointment, he is (as the song goes) 'one of our own' and must surely be given a decent welcome and the chance to show what he can do before he gets hammered.

A few people have said now that he is 'one of own own.'

Why is he one of our own? He was born in Newmarket (a zillion miles away!) and in addition to us he's played for Arsenal, Watford, Brighton, Yeovil, Hearts, Derby, Chesterfield and Kilmarnock.

So, not a local lad and played for 9 clubs.

I've got nothing against him but can't see why he's 'one of our own'?

I'd hate it if that chant was ringing out IF he's appointed...

I think this is part of a plot.

1. The rumour is put about that LJ will be our next manager

2. OTIB goes into meltdown, hundreds jump into the malago and drown, many more are seen returning season tickets, running riot in the supporters club

3. Pembo is appointed. OTIB breathes a sigh of relief and mark Ashton goes home a happy man. Spin DOES work.

I will walk away for good.  Never step foot in Aston Gate again.  Nor care ever again.   Those jokers are going to do it, they cannot help it.

Thought you said you were already watching things from a distance now anyway, and taking in some non-league stuff?

mate, you're right - I think the 2-2 game he played well in was against Newcastle. Was it on the BBC? Maynard scored for us, Carroll for them?

If he remembers his time as a player here with the barrage of abuse he got he'll turn us down

and if he takes it it shows something about his character. Fair play to him.

I can't be too harsh on those not fancying him, i was not impressed when i thought Appleton or Warnock was in the frame. My realistic choice would be Steve Clarke, but we don't know whats gone on behind the scenes. The fact that we have taken our time (something the board were heavily criticised for last time) suggests we have gone through a few options. As we've found out in the transfer market, we are seen as a risk to most whilst we are hovering around the drop zone. Maybe LJ is the best of the bunch we can currently attract?

I would have liked the new boss to have had Championship experience, but unless we could convince Pearson to take it everyone else would have mixed records in this league. I'm sure people would jump at the chance of us appointing Dyche, Rowett, Martinez or Howe. Well they all started in the lower league and have done fantastically. Of course it doesn't guarantee you success, but neither does a name. Look at Man Utd and their managers track record. Its about fit.

I don't get this "This is not an appointment to take us to the prem" business.Thats a load of rubbish. Obviously we need to stabilise but of course thats the aim and I'm sure fans of Burnley, Bournemouth etc thought the same when they appointed an unfashionable managers. I'd like to think the board have done their homework and believe in Lee's abilities as a coach. Whether it will work is another matter.

His playing career is largely irrelevant. So if you didn't like him in the team then you shouldn't hold it against him now. What matters is the club. Lets give whoever ends up being appointed a clean slate and let him impress us.
