Ashton to villa

Not convinced Villa are a sure bet to win promotion back at the first time of asking either. They seem to be cutting costs and any quality players they have (Richards, Grealish, Guzan etc) will probably move on.

Would be a hugely overhauled squad if they're relegated and they'll have to spend money to be competitive. Tough times ahead for them.

My first trip to Villa was in 1957 for an FA Cup tie. We lost 2-1 but Big John scored and absolute screamer from 30 yards with his left foot. I know we all keep saying it but with Atyeo in this season's team we'd be knocking on the door of the Prem.

I used to go there a lot when I lived in the Midlands. One night against Inter Milan stands out when Villa beat them 2-1. Milan had three great Germans in Matthaus, Klinsman and Brehme.

Also remember Bobby Gould puncing one into the net when it was easier to head it in s we only drew 2-2.

When did we actually last play Villa? I can't remember us playing them in the cup or anything recently...

The last League meeting was in January 1980, a 1-0 defeat at AG. Ten year later in the Summer of 1990, Villa sought a new Manager and following the double promotion, approached both Bristol clubs!

The sad thing is it means we have zero chance of a permanent deal for Baker. Not that it was necessarily on the cards, but you'd think we stand more chance with them as a premier league team.

I disagree, I don't think the odds would be effected that much. Villa will have to make a lot of cuts. If the offer is right, I think they would sell. Looks like dark days ahead for Villa. I cannot see them getting back in to the Premier League any time soon.

Have to admit to feeling sorry for Aston Villa this week.

Spent most of Tuesday at the ground and was escorted around the place by a number of their staff. The place oozes class - because everyone working at the club appeared to be very knowledgeable about their history and couldn't have been more hospitable. They were also very polite and courteous about BCFC and wanted to know all about us.

That 1982 match would have been one of my first City games. All I remember is being in the Enclosure with my dad.

I've always wanted to go to Villa Park so that's another reason we need to stay up...although it would be typical if it is an evening match when I've got to work late or something.

Wasn't the last league meeting in '79? A 1-3 home defeat?

I remember the 1982 FA Cup game well, I got warned by a chuckling policeman for throwing a snowball at a lino after a dodgy throw in decision!

My sister is a Villa fan, I bought her a hospitality package for a game vs Chelsea a few years ago as a Christmas pressie. They way they treated her was pure class.

They really made her feel like they were very grateful for her support and they phoned her a few weeks after to check that she'd had a good day and to get her feedback.

It was brilliant all round, especially as the game had to be rearranged but they were just superb and really valued the support.

Villa's off field team is very professional, very well organised and very much premier league. Pity about the guys on the pitch...

Didn't Gary Shaw rip us apart that day in 79?

The following season they were league champions and the year after that champions of Europe!

A great team back in they day

I would put them down to go straight through the league as they have nothing to offer and any, if, few decent players they have will want to stay in the premiership!

I don't get it.

Hull & Burnley are doing fine and even Cardiff & QPR that you would have thought would be basket cases have stayed in the division.
