22A
Why in recent years are pitches watered so much? In the last few years it's become common for clubs throughout the land to water pitched until shortly before kick off. At Bournemouth on Saturday, the sprinklers were on despite heavy rain falling. Back in September the Portman Road pitch was even watered at half time when City played there. Contrastingly, at Huddersfield in December, before the game there was heavy rain fall and the sprinklers weren't used that day. Has the type of grass changed or is there a more subtle reason such encouraging short passes?
steviestevieneville
Not sure if i'm correct but i think the modern pitches have less earth underneath them and much better drainage so pitches dry quicker. Managers and players want slick pitches hence why they are watered so much. Might be wrong mind.
downendcity
Helps bring on the salad crop the groundsman has planted in among the grass so it is ready to be harvested during the summer close season when the pitch is not in use.
