Admin phantom Posted May 18, 2016 Admin Report Share Posted May 18, 2016 Head coach Paul Trollope is set to be confirmed as Russell Slade's successor as Cardiff City first-team boss. Former Wales midfielder Trollope, 43, had been part of Slade's coaching team since February 2015. Slade was removed as manager of the Championship club at the end of the season and has taken up a new role as head of football, in which he will oversee scouting, among other duties. Trollope, in his new role, will not report to predecessor Slade. The club will confirm Trollope's appointment at midday on Wednesday. Trollope, who spent five years as manager of Bristol Rovers, is also a member of Chris Coleman's Wales coaching team. It is expected he will continue in his role at this summer's European Championship finals in France
One BCFC
Its one of them appointments where people have eyebrows raised but oddly I have this feeling he may do quite well.
HoldenBall
Did okay for the sags, only got bombed out because they thought they were bigger than league 1 football. But it's not really an appointment that will make the championship stand up and fear Cardiff.
And Its Smith
Good young bright manager. Fail to see the hilarity of this appointment
Wanderingred
So Cardiff have appointed somebody with no championship experience, but a decent solid record in League 1? Sounds a bit like our own LJ. Don't write him off.
Super
Ex Rovers manager hopefully this can do something for the atmosphere against them next season.

Red Cloud
Surprised Clarke hasn't been (or maybe I missed it) linked with anyone yet, was expecting some like Charlton to take an interest - he might be a dic, but back to back promotions has got to get him noticed

Tipps69
Seems like a rather uninspiring appointment, not exactly something to get excited about if I was Cardiff supporter (which luckily enough I'm not).

Yeah but at least LJ is young & thought to have a bright future in the game. Trollope has been in the background for the last few years, it would be very much on a level of someone appointing Keith Millen. Seemingly good coaches but not really head coach material. As for Cardiff, a management team of Trollope & Slade isn't exactly something to get excited about. Just my own personal feeling about it.

He did well at Rovers while Lennie Lawrence was "director of football" but after Lennie left he was out of his depth and couldn't manage on his own. B1ackbird
Slade was brought in to slash the wage bill while keeping Cardiff competitive, I think he did that quite well, even though the footballs been turged,( according to their fans) at times.. The only problem with promoting Trollope from within is it rarely works, you can't be a players mate one minute and bollock him for the same thing the next... Sort of lost in this thread is nothing to do with Trollope's ability and his incredibly average stats at the gas, it's about the big club mentality once more, apparently Cardiff were in the prem not so long ago and had good sized crowds and now they are not and a 2nd uninspiring appointment later their crowds are embarrassingly low and unless he get's them off to a flying start will continue in the same vein IMO. Perhaps the dream of being in the Prem is actually more stimulating than actually being there ? Hope we find out . Actually...
