It must be Ralph Milne who played for City for just under a year in the late 80s. On his day he was good, but on other days he looked like a pub player. For some unknown reason Alex Ferguson signed him for Man Utd, though Fergie later admitted that he was one of his worse signings.

It was the League Cup game against Palace that convinced him. Ralph was unplayable that day.

Just for a bit of fun and not meant to slate any particular past players (apart from Ian Baird, tosser!)

Who was the worst performer for us, in contrast to what they achieved elsewhere..?

For me, I think Richard Dryden takes the accolade. Woeful for City, before inexplicably going on to have a decent premier league career with Southampton.

Maybe Sten John, who was always a good goal scorer but again, woeful in his time here, albeit at the tail end of his career.

So, who was nowhere near good enough for City, yet went on to achieve well above..?

Danny Rose maybe..?

Sean Dyche. Absolute power house for Chesterfield. What a signing for us after cup heroics....ended getting booed off the pitch when subbed.

If nothing else, what this thread proves is how few permanent players have gone on to bigger and better things after being with us. There are notable exceptions like Andy Cole, Shaun Goater, Albert and (possibly) Kodjia but they are few and far between. Most seem to just move sideways like Cole Skuse, Brett Pitman or Greg Cunningham or just sink into the lower leagues never to be seen again.

I often think of players that we`ve had where you could argue that we have seen the best of their careers - Nicky Maynard and JET being two examples and up until last season I would have included Sam Baldock in that list too. There must be plenty of others too.

That`s because he was usually in the pub. RIP.

Slightly reversing the question, but the great Basso was a legend for us, and never did much anywhere else. Hard to think of many others though!

Maynard? Orr? Marvin Elliott?

None reached the same heights afterwards..
