Although I remember it being absolute bedlam in Dolman B block in December 1993 when we played Forest and a few gasheads made their presence known in the away end. The atmosphere that day was superb, even though we lost 1-4 when Collymore ran riot, and we had a 21k crowd for that game....we didn't need a brill, modern, family-friendly stadium to turn up in numbers back then.... Agreed. Not sure we will ever recapture those days. Way too sanitised now. Safe standing will help but B block proved that seating didn't make a difference. For me it was the proximity of the away fans and being above them - I recall a few Millwall games where you could see the hatred in their eyes. Other way round after Tony Cascarino (sure he scored a hat-trick) made in 1-4 one year - think that was 89-90 as well.....

I think it was Teddy Sheringham who scored a hatrick against us in the 1-4, it was April 1991? Millwall - great example of fans who create an incredible atmosphere with zero cringy singing.... Edit: apologies, just saw that 'Bob' mentioned Teddy in the post above...

Tin Soldier
Hatred, ferocity, violence, bedlam, lack of control, drugs, alcohol, proper firms, togetherness, all create an atmosphere. The 80's were full of it!! Nowadays - Iike a library!

Just continual E-I-O , E-I-O, E-I-O E-I-O as they were escorted down North Street , and throughout the game Think this was the game when they had a bonfire on the open end
BobBobSuperBob
Can remember quite a few games where a decent away following would come in and get engaged chanting towards the Park Enders or the East End and A and B Blocks would rise as one and roar 'Brrrrrrrrrristolllll' Makes me laugh now recalling a fair few away followings turning their heads , in surprise !!! Eddie Notgetinya
We've got some awful chants as well. itd be great if there was a nominated singing section but I guess not everyone will be happy with it's location

Before, we use to be quite intimidating and much, much louder than we currently are. I don't know whether this is because of the football we play, or the fans not knowing how to create one. I am a season ticket holder in the South Stand, and I always hear glimpses of a chant beginning. But literally after the first verse and it usually being quite quiet, it dies down. It feels quite dead at Ashton Gate, so I would like to gauge everybody's thoughts. Probably because we are in thd process of being relegated. Ciderhead433
You need the South Stand or as i still call it east end to be unreserved seating so the singers can all get in 1 place

BCFC Grim
Haven't enjoyed " the match day experience" since the Johnson play off campaign. While we were doing well, the promotion under SC didn't even come close. Even when we are winning I find myself bored. Doesn't help the Atyeo is a closed shop. I was thinking of making that my next home once the Atyeo shuts as a few of my mates are already in there. I think quite a few from the Atyeo will naturally gravitate there. BRISTOL86
Atmosphere has been on a steady decline since 07/08 which was the best I can recall. Even running away with league one and it resembled a library most of the time.
Guest
He does what he want, he does what he wants he`s Stevie Lansdown he does what he wants. The East End was taken by him, the New Multi Sports Bristol Stadium was built by him, and this clubs managers are chosen/employed by him. We the paying customers don't get a choice. We have to work with what we are given. Thankfully I remember the proper days at football when fans and players, lived, loved and ran through brick walls for this our club. Loved going to football on a Saturday back then and went to all home and most away games to proper grounds, most of which are long gone. Most are all the same now so are the footballers, prima donnas only interested in what they can get for themselves......money. Modern grounds and footballers......I`ll pass. KevP
Bristol Sport must be blind or thick ( or both ).....Just look at the Atyeo for a start. Section 82 and all those in that corner try their best but we then see empty terracing up to the away fans. FILL IT WITH OUR FANS FFS. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to work that one out yet we often see more away fans than our own in that end. Not a dig at S82 and the rest of you in there, it just boils my p155 when I see empty areas our fans could use in higher number and hopefully then create more noise and atmosphere. The last red n white night demonstrates the problem......

The last red n white night demonstrates the problem...... Forever, SL will associate organised noise with organised trouble. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think SL has he ever been part of a noisy, passionate football crowd - like the last East End was. He doesn't understand it or want it. What he doesn't get is that a sustainable vociferous crowd isn't based on middle-aged men bringing their wives and kids to games. More needs to be done. Three Lions
it was not about winning or losing it was about terrace culture and a a bit of the Dolman A/B. a culture that was in steep decline here like it was everywhere else. had a upturn for a while via the EE being reopened. This is modern football. the club didn't understand that culture. amount of there is also a few fans who made it difficult for those who wanted fans to get a real say in the stadium redvelopment. noise culture were not that important and now its been reduced to dreaded singing sections.
