Well he is either talking out of his arse now or post Villa, either way he has talked out of his arse.

Or perhaps that is the specially prepared communique from the Polit bureau?.

"There have been mitigating factors in elements of what's gone on"

I disagree.  Nothing can mitigate our position in the league, style of play, soft underbelly and killer instinct.  Its my belief that you have a good enough squad of players at your disposal.  The job is too big for you.  If by mitigating factors means personality clashes and mismanagement of players, then they are yours and yours alone.

Well technically he is right. Even if we lose on Saturday there's still 11 games to go. Pretty dumb thing to say, imo, and similar to SOD's 'I dont look at the league tables' quote. If we"ve dropped into the bottom 3 pn Saturday don't see how he'll be allowed to stay. Then again, thought his position untenable a while ago, but Steve thinks different...

What he actually meant was that he wouldn't necessarily be sacked if the team didn't win, but he's said elsewhere it's must-win for the team given our position.

He said it was an important game though.

They're all important; that's a given.  But this game had the potential to be significantly more meaningful than others.

The impact of the result in terms of the league position maths of it all is crucial; we shouldn't play it down.

I’ve just posted this on another thread.

This is his Radio Bristol interview quote post Aston Villa. I have it recorded so it’s fact.

“Saturday obviously becomes a must win game for us now, there’s no hiding the fact we got to win it, and a draw is not good enough.”

The above is the truth; we now stand in a poaition where our fate may very well be out of our hands already, and surrendering more opportunities to make ground on those immediately above us should be out of the question.

A draw may leave us in the drop zone, with our closest opponents holding a game in hand; that is not something that should be taken lightly.

He says "for me personally"

Perhaps for him personally as he knows it wont make a difference to his position as Head Coach. Maybe he is on his way.

For Bristol City and the fans, it obviously does matter.

I fear there is some truth to this.

Rotherham was identified as a crucial game, possibly because of SL having done so in interviews immediately prior, but it seems less so here.

I'd say we should be building the importance of this fixture, not hiding from it.

I must admit. I interpreted it as "It's not a must win for me personally because I know I'm getting my marching orders whatever happens".

If I'm not mistaken he also used the past tense to refer to his time as manager, but then quickly corrected it.

I think he knows his fate already.

Or maybe that's just hope talking!

Could it be that help is on its way...?

Maybe he keeps a position within club...?

But a Pearce or a Millen arrive

I can see where your going with this but I can't for a second believe we would hang onto him if a decision has been made to sack him.

I read it as it's must win for our relegation chances but not must win for his future at BCFC. I think SL in private has given LJ his 100% support whatever happens.

Surely whether we are in a relegation fight or pushing for promotion he must instil in his players that ALL games are must win. Judging by this it is not the players who lack a winning mentality. Sorry but my patience is now well and truly spent.

Lee's comment "two evenly matched teams" gives me an even deeper sinking sense of reality..... After two transfer windows we've arrived at being evenly matched with Burton....

Seems like he wants to be sacked.

Of course it's a MUST win because it draws them back into it so they can fight it out with Wigan & Blackburn.

We can then keep all three at arms length.

Wolves, with their games in hand will pull clear also.

Perhaps this is a " Dear God, Steve put me out of my misery please. " speech .

Anyway , The perfect Saturday would be a thrashing of Burton and LJ being relieved of his duties .

Is that too much to ask ? Three points against the smallest budgeted team in world football and a future new coach ?

I don't quite agree with the second part of your sentence.

He'd be treated with respect if he resigned on the spot .

Man enough to admit that it's not working for him and giving the club he ' loves ' the chance to turn things around.

'mitigating factors', Johnson is talking nonsense. Johnson has had unprecedented support from Stephen Landown and the board. Which previous manager could have bought a defender for £1.5m then loan the player to Bury, or a striker for over £2m and not play him - add agents fee, signing on fee and wages and that's over £4m, on players who are not good enough for the first team. Johnson will attempt to rewrite his time at City for his next employer (mitigating factors and all), if there is someone foolish enough to employ him. I'm sure it's all about the severance package now for Johnson, he has to say something, so he will continue talking BS until he's fired. 'Stephen Lansdown and his wife Maggie', ingratiating, but it should ensure he gets every penny, lets be clear Johnson is not a City supporter. If he does love City he would walk and thank Stephen Lansdown for giving him an amazing opportunity, he would then get full respect from the supporters.

Lee also said 'a draw is not a disaster'.

Does he not understand that unless we pick up some points, we are going to be relegated??

We are 21st on goal difference, and the team below us is in better form, and with a game in hand.

The situation is desperate, and he seems to think this utterly shit run we are on is a blip.

It's total 'mentaldom'.

Idiot.

LJ......'we could easily be sat here on 7 or 8 points more for various reasons....'

What like if we had a manager who had a clue?
