Oh God. When`s proper football back?

I Think you might just of taken porn to a new level or I might just be naive.

Hopefully soon, I now have images in my head that I'm not sure that I can erase, and rather more worrying I'm not sure I want to...

But with wide attackers (wingers) keeping their positions, if the full-backs aren't going to mark them it gives us the route round the back.

If the full-backs are going to mark, it will allow channels for runners from deep for the high-tempo, interpassing you are suggesting.

It's also a case of whoever plays up front makes moves away from the goal we are attacking to help draw the centre-halves out, to allow space in behind.

Of course, this is also dependent on what formation is played, why we continue to play 4 at the back against teams that may not even play one up front is beyond me, even a 3 at the back would of been a waste today but this is where defenders being comfortable on the ball come into it, we could have got away without  Bertrand & just left Stones with Dier, both comfortable but both could of easily covered at the back today but there is too much emphasis on set formations, 4-4-2, 4-2-3-1, 3-4-3, 3-5-2 etc but there was no need for it today.

We could of even encouraged them to be a bit more attacking if we 'dangled a carrot' in front of them but that's the fear factor football that we are playing because of the media.

England have pace, and Lithuania simply sat in the last third denying space in depth to nullify this. They were not going to be drawn out or isolated v width frequently.

England could have been bolder. Yes more players could and have joined in an attempt to create overloads. It is a waste v one and at times nil up top.

The fear factor is sometimes simply pragmatic International football. The best in the World have scored only one and two v sides like Lithuania employing compact ultra caution. Fifteen minutes in tonight was already a predictable yawnfest ...

I bet Andorran v Faroe Islands (0-0) was a bundle of laughs too...

Totally agree, I just wish we would show a bit more intent, go for it from the off.

How many times, especially when we've needed a result have we sat back hoping for something to happen in the first hour & then think 'oh shit' we've only got 30mins to save our game / tournament & teams know that (Iceland), if we grabbed the 'bull by the horns', I think a lot more people would be happier to see us going down fighting rather than just with a whimper.

Southgate now has that opportunity to stamp his authority on a 'new England' but although there are signs of improvement, he's not giving it enough of a go in my personal opinion.

"I think we've got to look every time we get together as to who is in form," Southgate said when asked if the striker was a realistic proposition.

"I don't know if we can have a distinct pecking order because players that are playing well deserve the opportunity"

How refreshing is it to hear an England manager say this? How many times in the past have we taken a player out of form or in some cases injured or recovering from an injury just on the off chance it all will come good on the day.

Fit, in form players will carry that confidence into their international games.

Now we just need to see if Southgate stands by this when it comes to the crunch.
