barney999
Can someone explain the reason why when away fans come to Ashton Gate, we let both sets of fans out at the same time! When we played Newcastle earlier in the season it was kicking off outside the ground, again Saturday there was trouble. Surly waiting 10-15 mins would be a better was of keeping control of the fans... Comments......

BobBobSuperBob
Think you may find that the idea is to avoid keeping away fans in (Illegal) whilst those home fans of a certain disposition gather / plan any form of confrontation

Each week I see the same heavies limping out before the final whistle, playing it all innocent. It is pretty obvious where they are headed, to regroup in ambush formation. Many an away fan has been set about by this mob, all tooled up with their walking sticks, pension books and blue badge wallets. Horrible to see, impossible to stop. Thugs. I've never actually understood why fans get kept in for 10-15 mins after a game as it just gives the home fans more time to gather. It used to happen on Winterstoke road after certain games in the late 90's. Surely you either let them out on time or keep them in 30+ mins but at the end of the day you'd like to think in the modern day it isn't required to keep any fans apart. Rascal
One of the things that used to piss me off at Ashton Gate, Is the Jobsworths in the yellow and orange jackets as you come out of the ground, making you go in one direction, it once took me a hour and half to find the car, because these knobheads wouldn't let me go back the way I had come, three of us wondering around aimlessly, not having a clue where we was going, we stood out like a sore thumb we could've got a right beating that night. EmersonsRed
I'd presume you'd have to get a large police number to allow it, sure @Mkelly will shed some light on the rules or whatever.
sglosbcfc
When we play Cardiff in a top of the table clash on Boxing Day there will be no problem with letting the 4,500 taffs out at the same time as us.

If and when this game happens with 4500 welsh, the ground will probably be a sell out with every thug from south Bristol attending!

The last one I can remember was Millwall about 6 years or so ago. That was done so that we could be marched straight to a waiting train and be escorted to London Bridge station. Miah Dennehy
I've always thought it made much more sense to let both sets of fans out together. A couple of times I have run into problems at Ashton Gate after being kept in. Those who want to do so are pretty much presented with sitting targets exiting the away end ten minutes after the game, it's a lot harder to identify away fans when they are left to mingle in with home fans after a game. Mkelly
As a club we don't do "hold backs" as they tend to cause more of an issue compared to a controlled exit. Our control room is now equipped with cctv covering all areas around the stadium so if needed the police can advise external colleagues on the movements of fans Hope this answers the question

Guest
The year that we travelled to Millwall, the coach got lost on the way, arrived 15 minutes late (with the police escort), were stopped after the game for about an hour, the coach driver having gone over his hours had to then stop at the services to wait another hour for a replacement. Sod getting kept in.

Port Said Red
If you are not looking for trouble it's not a problem. I walked from the Atyeo around to the Sports Bar through the Wolves fans without any concern.
