If Burton were relegated - thoughts on Nigel Clough

If LJ stays next season will be a disaster, I suspect something similar to 2011-12.

Why? Genuine question. This season - fully under LJ - has been a disaster as far as most have been concerned and we're still on 47 points with 4 games to play.

Why would next season be even more of a disaster?

If Burton get relegated, then almost by definition we have stayed up. In that circumstance I think SLs mind is made up that LJ is here, until at least Christmas if we start badly.

He may change manager if we go down. Not sure. In that case, tempting Clough from a Championship Burton might be not such a long shot, and maybe as good as we would do?

It's an irrelevance whether City stay up or Burton go down as, regardless of what we think of him on the forum, he seems to be regarded by many as a good manager. Therefore, should he leave Burton, why on earth would he want to come to manage Bristol City? We've had one good season under Cotts since Gary Johnson left  but, apart from that the performance has been pretty awful. Whatever has been happening at the club may only have been hinted at on the forum, but the same must be circulating in football circles.

If he's good at smaller clubs.... Well we are hardly a giant at this level. Not sure he will be leaving Burton whatever, he seems happy there and it seems a well run club. If Burton survive, you could argue him as a contender for Championship manager of the season.

As for him at City, no idea, there is no magic formula, just luck in getting the right man at the right time. Whatever, next season won't be easy, Sunderland Smoggies and one other coming down with parachute cash, Villa and Norwich looking to bounce back, two bigger clubs coming up. Consolidation would be good, but just avoiding a relegation scrap would represent a step forward.
