How big a club are we really?

Bristol City have significantly increased spending and losses since 1998. The club then certainly did not spend so far past its income, the past season has been an obvious exception.

I do not disagree with spending more wisely, there is never a guaranteed success with any signing, and the sums you are now quoting are more practical v forty million over two seasons, but could in the short term require Mr Lansdown to again use his cash to cover losses.

LJ has stated that he only really wants 3 or 4 new players (dependant on who leaves) & I Just think that 3 or 4 quality additions will lift the first team massively, that could allow us to let some of the older players who may struggle to feature to leave.

I'm not expecting us to spend £10m+ on a player as some clubs in The Championship have done recently but £3m or £4m on each player isn't an obscene amount & would improve us dramatically, that could see us dramatically improve our league position, the way we are seen within the game which in turn see's us increase 'bums on seats', sponsorship & prize money which all means extra income which could then allow us to spend similarly the following year to improve the weaker players in the starting eleven & before you know it, challenging for the play-offs isn't such a pipe dream (which at the moment it sadly is).

That would also enable us to improve the personal terms that we are able to offer but without destroying the current budgets obscenely but enough that we will be able to attract a better quality of player, even Bosman signings would mean we don't have to look at League One players who are unproven at our current level.

Get the supporters excited, breaking our transfer record will get the juices flowing & imagine how excited everyone would be if we broke our transfer record 3 or 4 times in a year!

And then we could really start to compete for players against other Championship clubs.

For roughly the same amount of money as was spent in the last year, we could completely transform the club but it needs the club to change it's current philosophy, this summer could be the making of the club or it could be the breaking of it & that all depends on who we bring in & who we let leave!
