Northern Red
That's not a bad effort by England on an absolute road of a wicket that is offering nothing at all for any of the bowlers. The main thing is that Sri Lanka haven't been able to score that quickly and get away.
PHILINFRANCE
Angelo Mathews, who scored a fine century today, reckons it will start turning tomorrow if it stays hot - quite possible in Sri Lanka at this time of the year , especially as there is no rain forecast. Whilst that might assist Jack Leach and Dom Bess tomorrow, it does not bode well for England, especially as, unless they make a massive first innings score, they will be batting last. Lrrr
Anyone thinking Sri Lanka were banking on winning the first test and produced one that offers nothing to create a draw? Same ground 2 different pitches in terms of quality Edited January 22, 2021 by Lrrr

Same ground 2 different pitches in terms of quality I'm not really sure about that. The current pitch has benefited from a prolonged spell of hot, dry weather, whereas weather conditions for the First Test included some extreme rainy spells. Lanterne Rouge
Needed that. Another fivefer for Jimmy. Shame for Dickwella though, he`d played well enough and deserved a ton. Six now!

Red Army 75
Burns back in to open in India. Left right hand combination IMO to open.
Red Army 75
Also surprising to drop/rest Bairstow for the first two tests as he is one of the better spin players
Alex_BCFC
We haven’t got a decent spinner - until we do we won’t be beating India. In fact I reckon we will get smashed by them.
Northern Red
Picking an opener who hasn't got a clue how to play spin is an interesting tactic.

Admin Maesknoll Red Posted January 23, 2021 Admin Report Share Posted January 23, 2021 Might be time to get some our promising youngsters to play a season or two in India, so they really get to understand the conditions and spin.

IMO it could be an option It’s the conclusion I came to in the week before they announced he wouldn’t be there for the first two tests. Not the long term answer there, but certainly the best bet for the India series in my opinion.
Robbored
Interesting discussion on Sky with Nass, Rob Key debating the difficulties of these guys have living a bubble life and why some of the England team are flying home. Bairstow, Buttler, Wood. Cricket is such a fascinating game. Incredibly multi dimensional.

And Its Smith
bookies have all 3 results pretty close together in the odds with England win fave. Sri Lanka at 5/2 is surely the bet as if Root fails second innings we could be skittled on a fifth day pitch
