Nope especially given he’s ill too. Basically De Kock’s knock was the difference first innings.  We’ve got to bat more like that first up. Bairstow should be out of test squad for good now and likes of Pope and Foakes need to be considered

Pope should be well enough for 2nd test, have to wonder whether Bairstow would have played if Pope was well

He wouldn't have, but he shouldn't have been in the squad in the first place. You don't drop someone after 18 months of poor form and obvious technical deficiencies only to recall them 2 matches later.

Get Hildreth out there ?

Losing 7-39 was more of a difference.

Apparently it's to do with player welfare, although most people are unconvinced by that.

The venues budget for matches going 4 days, their ideal scenario is a finish sometime after tea on Day 4.

Vaughan supports it on the basis the average test lasts 319 overs so 90 a day should normally see 4 days, however all you need to say is the ashes 2-2 and a drawn 4th test or rain affected which would be sorted day 5.

Perhaps a suggestion, 4 day tests that have to see 90 overs a day, if 90 overs a day aren't played it goes into a 5th day?

Few decent knocks from Buttler in a couple of overs there. Hopefully carries it on through the rest of the day.

Nearly out as I typed that! ?

I think he knows they have a new ball in 10 overs so trying to get as many as possible.
