FA Cup 2017-18

The draw for the Extra Preliminary and Preliminary Rounds will be held on Friday. Meanwhile here's a chart showing how much clubs receive for winning each round

Extra Preliminary Round winners £1,500    Preliminary Round winners £1,925

First Round Qualifying winners  £3,000    Second Round Qualifying winners £4,500  Third Round Qualifying winners £7,500 Fourth Round Qualifying winners £12,500

First Round Proper winners £18,000 Second Round Proper winners £27,000       Third Round Proper winners £67,500 Fourth Round Proper winners £90,000                  Fifth Round Proper winners £180,000 Quarter-final winners £360,000 Semi-final losers  £450,000 Semi-final winners £900,000                                                                         Final runners-up £900,000 Final winner £1,800,000 Total £15,132,000

So if a team from leagues 1 or 2 made it to the 3rd round and ten lost, they'd receive less money for their two wins (£18,000 + £27,000) than a Prem or Championship team coming in at the third round that beats them £67,500).

To be fair that £67,500 would mean a lot to a Prem club.

A weeks wages for someone ay. The prize money is almost pointless now, massive for the smaller clubs but insignificant for prem and most championship and league 1 outfits. Yet more wasted money that could be pumped back in at grass roots level by the FA.

At the same time, depending who they played, they could make a lot more money from the split gate receipts than their prize money.

Lincoln must of got a few quid last season then

£296,000;  made up of £12,500 + £18,000 + £27,000 + £67,500 + £90,000 + £180,000.

Meanwhile Arsenal picked up £360,000 just for winning that quarter final.

But wouldn't Lincoln have got that £360k if they'd won the quarter final..?

The prize money only means anything to most of the teams outside the Prem really.

Give the FA Cup winners a champions league place and you'll soon see teams taking it more seriously. They would be more worthy champions than a team finishing 2nd, 3rd or 4th - give 4th CL football if the FA Cup winners are in the top 4.

I appreciate historically, it's the European Cup rather than a champions' competition.

This may even re-ignite some interest in the cup final again. Especially if we were to lose one of the CL places to a more successful nation like Italy

Is there a list of entries anywhere?

Can't find one, but the draw for the Extra Preliminary and Preliminary Rounds will be held on Friday. After those two rounds come the four Qualifying rounds with clubs from different non league levels joining at various stages.

Last season 368 teams were in the 1st Qualifying Round.

Only 32 non leaguers make it to the 1st Round Proper when the 48 teams from Leagues 1 & 2 join in. As they knock each other out, just 20 "lesser" teams make it to Round three when the 44 Championship and Premiership join in.

If they are in the 9th tier or higher then they most likely are.

Bristol Manor Farm just got promoted from their division which was the 9th tier and have entered it as long as I can remember, almost always from the very first round (extra preliminary), 6 rounds before the first round 'proper'

There's normally over 700 clubs to start I believe.

Edit- I see Wellington won the division below Manor Farms last season and have taken their place in the Western Premier.

A reasonable chance they will be in it, but comes down to if the club applied or not.

totally agree. I just don't understand why the fa and premier league and uefa can not see it. (must be the money eh!) bout time the premier league realised its just first division of the football league again. FA cup champions to European cup.....all day long.

They should do, I think top 6 teams in Western League div 1 gain entry to FA Cup - but its also down to ground regulations.

Was part of one of the four teams to beat Wellington last year :) deserved winners, they were very good.

Just a thought; The FA claims to be supporting football at "grass roots" level and it's commonly acknowleged there is too much money sloshing around the Premiership. FA Cup sponsorship is more than £15,000,000 and there are approximately 1,000 cup ties. Just a suggestion the winners of EVERY round to receive £15,000. Clubs at the top of the tree won't notice any difference, but think what £15K would do for clubs such as Bitton or Manor Farm.

One of my teams scored 0 (Brislington) the other scored 1 (Odd Down) - in a fantastic giant killing of Mangotsfield.
