MC RISK77 Posted July 30, 2017 Posted July 30, 2017 http://www.skysports.com/share/10967032 manager coming out strongly against the clubs transfer policy so close to the start of the season.
Robbored Posted July 30, 2017 Posted July 30, 2017 Aren't we just delighted that we don't get the same divisive comments from LJ probably because he, MA and that stats people all understand the transfer system.

Eddie Hitler Posted July 30, 2017 Posted July 30, 2017 It does sound rubbish; similar to the time when Gary Johnson's incomprehensible team selections turned out to be because he was basing them upon some highly trained chimpanzee analysing Prozone stats. The Whites operate a 'two boxes ticked' system when signing players, in which the target must be endorsed by both the club's statistical analysis and scouting departments. But Sky Sports News understands that a number of these players, such as centre-back Marcelo Djalo, have been signed despite reservations from coaching staff that they would not be worthwhile.

samo II Posted July 30, 2017 Posted July 30, 2017 To play Devil's advocate a bit; this situation has apparently been the case since last summer, and Fulham did pretty well with the team they put together - maybe the gaffer is talking up a storm for some reason other than what he's claiming; wouldn't be the first time a manager or player tried to improve their position like that. However, as I've said before; if you're going to work this stats-assisted signing policy, all areas have to work together - it's got to be part of a strategy everyone buys into. Probably not a great sign that their gaffer doesn't sound convinced by it.

I think it's one of those strategies that are used irrespective of who the manager is, that way if the manager leaves the club still have potential targets instead of the manager in theory walking away with the list of potential targets but I agree, surely the first team manager has to be in agreement with the policy because otherwise he risks being undermined & then walking away.
JoeAman08 Posted July 30, 2017 Posted July 30, 2017 Fulham knew what they were getting when they hired him though. He's not what you'd call low maintenance. He doesn't have much loyalty and has left clubs he's succeeded at before. He might just feel it is time to move on because he's not guaranteed to do well. Good manager on matchday but a bit of a mercenary imo. Knows what he's doing but won't take much for him to go. Not ideal attitude for a manager

He seems to be saying that the club are buying players for his squad with virtually no consultation and no relationship between him and the guy in the directors box. Or it's all his spin!

Of course he can not like it but think it was in place when they hired him. He's never stayed in a job very long and don't think he's been sacked from many. I don't know, just always seems to be some controversy around him.
