Notting Hill Carnival

August Bank Holiday weekend so it's the annual carnival in this part of London.

Because of expected trouble, based on previous events, extra Police on duty, shops & ho,mes boarding up their windows and some residents going away for the weekend.

What has this to do with football? Assorted Constabularies want to charge football clubs for officers on duty not just in the ground as they do at present, but outside also on traffic duties etc. Yet there's no mention of the Carnival organisers being asked to foot any Police bill as the Met are simply responding to an event.

If clubs can afford to pay mediocre players £20k a week they can pay for the police.

The two events are really not comparable.

I would have thought ability to pay doesn't come into it. The London marathon is swimming in cash and doesn't pay either.
