hoxton casual Posted August 26, 2017 Posted August 26, 2017 He really is a prospect. Well done Lloyd and what a personal story. I feel it is churlish to mention it but Taylor Moore anyone?

Port Said Red Posted August 26, 2017 Posted August 26, 2017 Only 18 too, no wonder we have put him on a proper contract, the academy starting to bear fruit.
eastonboy Posted August 26, 2017 Posted August 26, 2017 Wow!! absolute heartfelt congrats Mr Kelly!!!
chinapig Posted August 26, 2017 Posted August 26, 2017 Remarkable achievement given he is not in the PL spotlight. Speaks very well of the academy, our coaches, the England set up for giving him a chance and most of all the young man himself.
eastonboy Posted August 26, 2017 Posted August 26, 2017 Would be interesting to know who he has replaced in the U20's - the u20's that were highly successful during the summer
JoeAman08 Posted August 26, 2017 Posted August 26, 2017 Outstanding news for the club and the academy but.... Well done to Lloyd Kelly this is your moment and your hard work is paying off young man. I'm really excited to see him pushing Joe Bryan over the season and hopefully makes them both better.
pigeon Posted August 26, 2017 Posted August 26, 2017 Would love to see this next game: Fielding Eros Wright Baker Kelly Eliason/Pato Brownhill Pack Bryan Reid Diedhiou

Davefevs Posted August 26, 2017 Posted August 26, 2017 That is great. Is Boothroyd the u20 manager? If so, perhaps he was at Watford on Tuesday?
Phileas Fogg Posted August 26, 2017 Posted August 26, 2017 Awesome news. @Shtanley tipped him for big things before most of us had seen him. He's also had faith in Reid for ages.. hoping he's right about another of his suggestions - Diedhiou
italian dave Posted August 26, 2017 Posted August 26, 2017 Brilliant. Well done Lloyd. Much deserved too.

ZiderEyed Posted August 26, 2017 Posted August 26, 2017 Amazing seeing homegrown, local youth in the England setup, I know I did **** all but I'm very proud, well done that man.
Phileas Fogg Posted August 26, 2017 Posted August 26, 2017 Who was the last academy player who played for an adult England youth level (u19s+)? Lita doesn't count as strictly speaking he's not a true academy's product..

Lanterne Rouge Posted August 26, 2017 Posted August 26, 2017 The games are home to Holland on Thursday at Telford and then away in Switzerland on Monday. No idea of KO times but there`s a good chance BT Sport will have the games on - possibly with our very own Jonathon Pearce commentating!

cidered abroad Posted August 26, 2017 Posted August 26, 2017 Brilliant news for Lloyd and the coaching staff who have helped him through the years. I'm excited about the quality that we are now seeing from our Academy boys. So good for the future of our club.
Major Isewater Posted August 26, 2017 Posted August 26, 2017 Imagine if we'd been a Cat 1 academy and held on to our best youngsters.
Guest Euan BCFC Posted August 26, 2017 Posted August 26, 2017 If there's one positive from since LJ took over it's that our acedemy has improved massively

Lloyd joined the academy at 11 thats seven years ago long before LJ took over. Overhead this once said by a Southampton coach, the only difference between you and us is not the quality of the players but the opportunity available to them. What LJ has given the boys in the academy is a route to get to the first team that wasn't available before.

Looks like Kelly has always been ahead of the curve, and good to see both Cotts and LJ have seen this.
shelts Posted August 27, 2017 Posted August 27, 2017 Always makes me smile that England rate him and he can't as of yet get into our side . Well done lad

A) I wasn't just talking about Lloyd B) under other managers (bar maybe Cotts) youth weren't given that much of a chance

The young players he bought in were already established professionals, not our academy players. He even opted to have a spare place on the bench rather than fill it with a youth player on occassion. Had he shown more willingness to create a 'pathway' for youth players, he might've kept his job for a while longer.

Well done lad Doesn't necessarily make him ready for men's championship football. There's a big difference. I don't think it's a case of us not 'rating him' as highly as England, he's only 18 and has Bryan ahead of him who's improved this season and is clearly highly rated. Looks like Joe Bryan is going to be hard pushed for his starting spot though which is great to see. Exciting to see us with two young academy graduates competing for that spot. It's a bit of a specialist position and teams pay big money for young English left backs.

Well done lad Funny club city, some players are young and can't get into any first team , Taylor Moore , Magnússon, Kelly , deemed good enough for their national teams, but not us , we go on about the academy etc , however vyner, etc come In for a game or two then vanish. Kelly is flavour of the month , how long before he's shipped out to Rochdale ? Other clubs play champ or prem blood youngsters into their teams

Other clubs play champ or prem blood youngsters into their teams I think it's the history of the club , we've nearly always been either pushing for promotion from the third division or battling relegation from the Second . We rarely have a quiet moment whereby we could introduce academy players into a less pressurised situation without the worry that they would crack or through inexperience lose us games. The solution the club always looked for was proven , ahem , quality to help the cause . The youngsters weren't trusted enough or maybe weren't good enough . We have upped the quality now and finally it looks like paying off. An interesting time to be a City supporter.
WhistleHappy Posted August 27, 2017 Posted August 27, 2017 Investing in Lloyds is generally a good investment...

eastonboy Posted August 31, 2017 Posted August 31, 2017 Tried searching via England lions twitter feed and untold internet searches- does anyone know if he made the team tonight??

I tried Telford FC'S Twitter which led me to an audio only commentary on live sports fm but it lost signal after a minute or so. England were 3-0 up with 20mins to go but did not catch any team details. Hope he got some minutes at least.

BCFC Rich Posted September 5, 2017 Posted September 5, 2017 Played full 90 against Switzerland finished 0-0 and he played left of CB pairing, a position LJ says he can see him in long term.

But to answer your question he replaced Reece Oxford (West Ham, on loan at Borussia Monchengladbach) who withdrew from the squad because of injury.

That for me was where Cotts lost it-just unforgivable to deny a young player the experience of being in a first team match day squad.dont imagine to know what he was thinking. Hope he's learnt from it.
