Reading various stories today (including on the BBC) that he has turned down 180k a week to stay with Arsenal and 200k a week to sign for Chelsea.

Instead opting for Liverpool for 'just' 120k per week.

A sign of a player who wants to play and be at a club where he thinks he'll have a better chance of developing his career or is it now a case that players have so much money another 80k a week makes zero difference to them?

I was impressed when I saw that his main reasoning was that he thought Chelsea would play him as a wing back, where as he would play centrally for Liverpool. A player thinking about more than money when making a career move is refreshing.

I'd empty the bins for the 80k/week that he's turning down!

Cant believe someone is willing to pay 40m for him. Such a bang average player.

Agreed but when good Championship players are £15-£20m I suppose it's par for the course. He's average on a world scale but he's been good enough to get into a consistently top four side.

It's a ridiculous sum but it's in line with the market.

The fee is very large considering he's in the last year of his contract, however fair play to him on a personal level for turning down extra money for holding out for what he wanted, a lot of players would have taken the extra 80k and just played out of position.

Just me being cynical but maybe he's getting paid the other £80k by a different means. If not, then fair play to the lad.

I still can't figure out why he is worth £40million, is this a fair price in the current market?

That's the number that came out of Lee's Tombola (he's patented it and sold it to a lot of clubs), as that's the only answer I can give for some of these stupid amounts players are going for lately.

Signing on fee? Appearance fees? Wouldn't surprise me.

World cup year, don't think he wants to be competing with Walker, Clyne, Tripper for a right back spot, clever of him if he'll get played in the middle at Liverpool as England's central options aren't strong.

Agree mate, always rated the Ox and fair play to him for choosing opportunity over the cash. He wants consistent first team football, which sadly isnt guaranteed at Arsenal.

Don't get me wrong, the money is still obscene anyways, but to turn down 200k a week so he can join Liverpool and play more regularly is a good thing in my books.

If we're playing with wingbacks he's the clear choice for me. Although centrally the jury is still out.

Of course and I expect that overall it all amounted to a similar final renumeration package regardless of how it is split.

No one really knows how good he is do they? Rarely played by Wenger and offer out of his favourite position. Could be a very good signing especially given the coutinho money. Ox will probably get more goals than coutinho does

quite. When ive seen him its been as an impact player out on the wide.. but he sees himself central? Remains to be seen i suppose. Pool looking strong up top.

Maybe he's hoping by clinging onto him Henderson will have to take him out onto the pitch with him when the time comes.

35m according to bbc. Good signing the trouble for him will be getting into the team.

What the he'll is going on with Arsenal? Seems like they are trying to sell their whole squad without actively trying to bring anyone in.

Seems Sanchez will only leave if Lemar comes in.

Can't cross... can't shoot... can't dribble consistently... defensive positioning hideous... but he's fast and strong. Maybe that's what you mean?

I think he'll end up on the wing sharing time with Salah and Mane. They're in champions league this year so will need the squad to have a bit more quality plus Mane isn't always fit. Centrally he's got a lot to compete against even if Couthino were to leave. I'm sure Klopp will get more out of him and spending 35m on a player in the last year of his contract and giving him a 5 year deal, Klopp will be making space for him.

As part of a 2 at Arsenal, or part of a 3 at Liverpool?  I think that was a big factor.  Will give Liverpool a different dimension to the Henderson / Wijnaldum / Can threesome.  Can has come on a lot in the last 6 months, and I've reviewed my thoughts on him.  Henderson has plateaued a bit (possibly through injuries).  Oxlade in a three will be able to break the lines, and that is what Liverpool need in those games where it's tight.

Lets not forget that when he broke onto the scene, he looked to biz, but Wenger (imho) has stifled him over the past few years.  I hope Klopp can get him back on that upward curve.

Good signing....probably £10m too much for a guy with less than a year to go.

I see him being the perm 4 from 3 of the central midfielders....see above.

A very physical player, more of a complete athlete than technical footballer. So often you see him just get the ball and drive forward rather than consider his options. 14 assists in 135 prem appearances speaks volumes. You rarely if ever see him produce a defence splitting pass, or a piece of genius. The high, box-to-box energy will please Klopp but for me ne will be nothing more, especially in the long term, than a versatile fringe player, exactly what he was at Arsenal.

He doesn't want to play wing back and this the reason he turned down Chelsea

Seeshimself as a central midfielder (I don't at all - widemidfield or part of a Three for me)
