LondonBristolian Posted September 20, 2017 Posted September 20, 2017 Do I remember reading somewhere that at least one club - possibly us - had banned fans taking laptops into grounds? If so, is it something most clubs are doing now? The reason I ask is I tend to bring my laptop with me to use on the train on any long-ish distance trips and am planning to bring it to Norwich and Ipswich but want to be sure I'm not going to find I'm banned if I do so!
Monkeh Posted September 20, 2017 Posted September 20, 2017 was going to ask why people want to bring a laptop to the game, but in your case fair enough, Maybe contact the club and ask if you can leave it somewhere, @AdamB may be able to clear it up for you
Turbored Posted September 20, 2017 Posted September 20, 2017 Prem clubs were/are banning Ipads as people were blatantly filming the game , particularly foreign visitors.

I'd definitely check LB as there was definitely something about lap tops and was to do with a security / terrorism alert / fear at the time IIRC

I'll have mine with me for the Bolton game next week so will be interested to hear the response to this

Looks like it was a while ago @LondonBristolian can only find Man Utd and West Ham raising it http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-28773897 http://www.claretandhugh.info/what-you-can-and-cant-bring-to-the-london-stadium/
wesco Posted September 20, 2017 Posted September 20, 2017 I took mine in to Ashton Gate a number of times last season as was travelling from London and doing work on the train. I am pretty sure I also took mine in to West Ham last season along with a number of other clubs and never had a problem. I think United had grounds for stopping ipads as people were filming and taking pictures during the game which given the size of some of them means the person behind can't see.
Leveller Posted September 20, 2017 Posted September 20, 2017 I regularly take my iPad in, in a bag. It is always accepted during the bag search. And why are people surprised? I use it to follow other scores and OTIB - it's just bigger and easier to read than a phone.
TBW Posted September 20, 2017 Posted September 20, 2017 I don't mind people taking stuff in the ground at all, what gets me is when the woman or kid in front of me is playing games on the iPad during the match... Even worse when they have the sound on.

Davefevs Posted September 20, 2017 Posted September 20, 2017 Joe takes his iPad in....keeps him quiet before the game and at h-t. I like to get there early, so he gets a bit of Minecraft, Racing game fix before the game. He does watch the 90 though...iPad back in the bag during the match.

Much better to take the iPad so I get to watch the game!!

Mind you, some venues are so big that if you are sitting near the back, the singer looks about 3 inches tall in real life!

If they get bored talk to them, distract them. it's worked for years before people had phones etc. It sickens me to see babies playing on phones whilst being wheeled about in their buggies. Rant over. Am I alone in this?

Back to the question at hand, I had the same issue at Brentford. Knew I'd be arriving with a bag and laptop and rang their office a couple of days before to get guidance - just do the same. (Brentford's policy was I was allowed the bag after a search, what ours has now evolved to). More than likely allowed but if not some clubs will store for you - just ring and check
JustinCider Posted September 21, 2017 Posted September 21, 2017 That's the trouble with this country these days, it's too PC.

lgbbcf Posted September 21, 2017 Posted September 21, 2017 not sure it would be a good idea banning all laptops and ipads etc, for many reasons, people turning up from work with them, people with kids, etc
RumRed Posted September 21, 2017 Posted September 21, 2017 Just turn up naked, no chance of being turned away then.
Private Cider(cider army) Posted September 21, 2017 Posted September 21, 2017 Brentford let me take my laptop in back in August... just normal back search...

Have found their list: http://www.edp24.co.uk/sport/norwich-city/norwich-city-announce-extra-security-measures-at-carrow-road-for-upcoming-season-1-5125180 Looks like I'm fine. As @lgbbcf says, there's so many reasons why somebody may legitimately need to bring a laptop that I can't imagine clubs are generally going to ban them...

The Nest Egg Posted September 21, 2017 Posted September 21, 2017 If I recall correctly, this was following a terrorism scare. Trump spilled a confidential secret that ISIS had been designing bombs that look like batteries. I would assume this would be the reason why.

Bet the hoover doesn’t get wheeled out as often as the iPad though!

I understand it's the way of the world but don't you find it sad that these babies and toddlers are already showing signs of addiction to screens and some have withdraw symptoms. A time and a place and a bit of variety surely? Many youngsters now turning up to schools unable to hold a pencil never mind write their name, but they sure as hell can put a user name and password in on a keyboard.

Her school use and encourage the use of iPads, im not saying she uses it 24/7 and she certainly prefers to write or draw at home but if taking it to football means I get to watch the game when she gets bored then I'm all for it!!

Am I alone in this? no, I have often said if I could only turn off the damn internet for just one day, it would be hilarious watching people on buses trains restaurants wondering what the hell to do with themselves, now I know they have their uses, but some people seem incapable of ever actually interacting with anybody (rant over as well)
