If it's just an average goal there's no need for the commentator to feel he has to make an impact with his description.

Most of us left this sort of ridiculous exaggeration for just about everything behind in our teenage years. It doesn't add to the excitement to over dramatize when it's so obviously OTT and contrived. ( Are you listening Screecher?)

These days it's often 'glorious strike', 'stupendous finish', 'cracking effort', 'sublimely taken', or 'incredible goal' ... and that's just for tap-ins. ;)

'Good goal, very well taken' would almost always suffice, and leave any embellishment until it is truly justified.

And if Rovers score, best not to mention it at all, but ffs definitely not during the City commentary. :grr:
