If this has been covered elsewhere, I apologise, but it would seem that our former full back has upped his game somewhat since returning to the SPL. The SFA has banned him for two games for kicking the door on the referee's room in temper after he was judged to have conceded a late penalty, playing for St.Johnstone in a 3-2 defeat vs Dundee. When he played for us he would have definitely missed..................

Don't understand what you're trying to say. I'm not comparing him with Hunt if that's what you mean

@MichaelRobartes - didn't I do well?

Yeah, had completely forgotten about him. I was expecting a play on words about Master Bates, was actually a little disappointing!

Nicky Hunt, at the Leeds away game, was nothing short of a disgrace, Foster was just crap!

I will accept your Stephen McManus and raise you an Ian Baird. I will also throw in a Tony Dinning! :grr:

A mate texted me after that game saying that if Hunt ever put on a City shirt again he was done with the club.

I remember posting on here after Fosters debut away to brighton....stating that he had an excellent debut and looked a good signing for us.

The only time I've ever been wrong.

I remember thinking the same - he was pretty quick, which probably fooled me into thinking he might be decent. As it turned out pace was about the only positive. Not quite as bad as Nicky Hunt, although it would be quite something to be as bad as Nicky Hunt.

McGivern was a right back wasn't he? With poroxide blonde hair? I remember him being hopelessly out of his depth, beaten time after time, game after game by opposition wingers. Dark times.

But let's not forget about Liam Fontaine. His performances in our relegation season were as bad as I've ever seen from a defender. There was a core of old guard.. Fontaine, Nyatanga, Carey, Pearson, Elliott who all did well for us but had stagnated badly.

No, McGivern was a left back. Allegedly.

Left back and as the old joke stated he should have been left back in the 'locker' room............

Must admit I read this thread and got Ryan McGivern and Scott McGarvey muddled up, what a player you would have if you combined those two!

Didnt we get McGivern on loan from Man City, well it might as well have been a Man City ladies for all the use he was. Then we signed another player from Man City and feared the worst, but he didn't turn out too shabby did he. Maybe in hindsight though it was worth persueing with Joe as he's developed into quite a player, this season especially, but still the time I was gutted that Greg moved on.

McGivern was a left-back. Like he was towing a caravan. I remember in our promotion season he was at Port Vale and his cock up allowed Alby to round the keeper and score. Terrible player. Did well at Hibs which probably says more about the SPL than him as a player. Currently without a club.

Nicky Hunt is probably regarded as the worst player to pull on a City shirt - certainly is in my eyes. His 'performance' at Leeds was the worst I've ever seen from a professional footballer.

The only player I've ever seen who turned slower than milk, utterly useless. My nan was faster than him and she had been dead for 10 years, I've seen grass grow quicker than him.

The difference between them?

McGarvey was 5hite.

McGivern was utter 5hite.

Who was the second player from Man City after McGivup - I've completely forgotten?

Anybody remember Big Bas Savage....I think he did score once, remember almost falling off my seat with laughter.

Greg Cunningham.

As RedM mentioned above, he was an excellent full back, but SC wanted to play with a back three and he was jettisoned - he went off to PNE and has since become a firm favourite, player of the year a season or so ago.

There must also have been some bad blood between GC and SC, judging by GC's reaction when he returned to Ashton Gate shortly after his departure.

Will genuinely never forget Football Genius Derek McInnes picking him in centre midfield.

You should no better than to have a pop at Mcinnes on here bearded_red.  After all he halved the wage bill during his time with us :P..................yet still found the monies to pay that Mcmanus best part of 15k p/w .

He (Mcinnes) also refused all internal & external help on recruitment and simply went with his own contacts...........

Nice bloke Del but an awful manager whilst here.

I'd forgotten about him. Terrible player and looked like he couldn't give a damn. Crikey, McInness signed some absolute dross.

Had to find a way of getting his best mate Mark Wilson into the side though, didn't he? Compared to him Foster was Cafu.

Oh I remember the Leeds game well and you're right . I just couldn't understand how foster ever made a pro footballer. Simple positional play, not closing down etc . I still get angry thinking about it :laughcont: still stealing a living as well .

Is he still punching above his weight and knocking off Amy MacDonald?

Oh how true! I sincerely hope we never see their like again in a City shirt (I`d be happy to see them in the famous quarters though)

Quote I’ve heard from Greg to a City player when shaking hands at the end of the game, was “if that gets the gaffer the sack I’ll be absolutely ******* buzzing” - talking about SC, obviously

funnily enough that did actually become Cotts’ last game!

Nope. They weren’t fans of each other at all.

Just need to look at

A) how mental he went when he scored

B) how every single Preston player jumped on him after he scored

He’d obviously been very vocal about how badly he wanted to score..

Thought it was a bit wierd at the time as he was behind JB in the pecking order, obviously felt he merited a start ahead of him...

See that just ain't right is it. I'm normally a person that thinks fair play to anyone who does well for themselves but in his case :grr:

Too right , NOT ONE SINGLE PLAYER goes mental when they've scored and it's rare to see other team mates join in the goal celebrations .

Honestly , conspiracy theory corner or what ?

Sorry Pete , not compelling evidence is it .

The remarkable thing about that Leeds United game was that he didn't even come on until the 65th minute!

He still found the time to be at fault for each one of Luciano Becchio's three goals, though.

True enough, he never played for City again.
