He took it away neatly to be fair, always wants an extra touch of though.

He did, but you just know now you are not going to get those, where the goalie is in the prcess of kicking it. Otherwise we just have forwards chasing goalies around again. What was more impressive was his run and shot leading up to it.

Oh the irony, Colin & Co whining about not getting dubious decisions given their way! What about showing replays from the handball from Steve Morisons effort for Millwall that he was appealing for or was that so clear cut that they thought they better not show that the game wasn’t all one way? Sky’s reporter was saying how poor the game was.

Cardiff have always whined about how hard done by they are & now they have a professional whiner in charge, it’s a match made in heaven (or hell) & has been since they came together.

it wasnt a goal kick,he wasnt offside and the ball wasnt in the keepers hands. why is it not allowed?  im not up to speed on the technical bits of fouls etc

what is the max height a player can lift his foot to kick a ball? ie,shoulder/chest height or is it lower than that?

edit. just read the tubby thread.makes sense now

I think it’s down to the fact that they count it as the keeper being technically still in control of the ball & it’s classed as unsportsmanlike behaviour (or something along those lines), hence the booking as well, similarly a player isn’t allowed to just stand in front of a keeper who’s kicking it & ‘accidentally’ letting the ball ‘hit’ them.

Ref was bang on with the decision, Cardiff are just bitter as they had one allowed against them when Eto'o did it however there's a sub-part to the rule that if the ball is bounced then the ball is deemed live, which Marshall did so was allowed. Yesterday the keeper didn't bounce it and therefore not allowed to. Cardiff fans don't care and just bitch about being hard done by.

Can you point me at the sub-rule that states that? I didn't think it was a goal yesterday under Law 12 below, but just haven't seen the sub-rule.

A player must be penalised for playing in a dangerous manner if he kicks or attempts to kick the ball when the goalkeeper is in the process of releasing it.

Honestly wouldn't be able to, should have said I was quoting what someone else said which other people seemingly were agreeing with. Pretty sure it was on Cardiff's forum so can't they'd be saying that it was a legit goal (the Eto'o goal) unless it were true.

Law states: "An indirect free kick is also awarded to the opposing team if a player prevents the goalkeeper from releasing the ball from his hands".

This was then clarified further after a couple of incidents including the Eto'o one against Cardiff so that:

“A goalkeeper is considered to be in the process of “releasing the ball” from the first moment when he or she has clearly taken hand control of the ball until the moment when the ball has been clearly released into play. This includes any time when the goalkeeper is:

  • bouncing the ball
  • running with the ball
  • in the process of dropping the ball in preparation for kicking it
  • throwing the ball"

So it is clear that the ref got it right on Saturday and that any "bounce" sub-rule mentioned above isn't relevant under the current laws.
