My friend Lynda's parents must have also pondered on his model looks as they laboured in a Siberian gulag. Their crime ? being " Latvian " ! A leading member of the Communist party took a fancy to their house and thought a nice long stay in the frozen North would do them good whilst he looked after it . Nice . Happy ending though as she reclaimed the family home after the fall of the USSR and now lives there peacefully. Being an island nation has saved us so much suffering. We should count our blessings.
