Norwich v Ipswich

At the 16 minute mark the Norwich fans applauded. Did I hear the commentator right? He said this was because it's 16 years since Ipswich dropped into the Championship.

Hmm; if true then perhaps Wycombe fans if playing an evening game v Rovers could all applaud at 20.14 hours.

It was the Ipswich fans applauding celebrating 16 years in the championship apparently. Essentially celebrating being the most boring club in the league.

Could do with this being a draw though. If either one wins they`re only five points behind us.

Has Mad Mick sent his players out wearing slippers? Everyone of them seem to be hitting the deck as soon as a Norwich player gets within a yard of them! And the ref is doing nothing to deter them from doing it! I thought Mad Mick set his teams out to be hard to beat, not to try & cheat every opportunity they get!

Interesting fact just mentioned. In the 5 years Mick McCarthy has been manager he has spent approx £3m in transfer fees but has recouped approx £14m in transfer sales. It illustrates what a tight budget he’s operating with, but still keeps Ipswich on the fringe of the playoffs

Only £14m in? He sold Mings for over half of that alone didn’t he? Ipswich have stagnated massively & show little signs of progressing anytime soon.

God how awful do Ipswich look.

At HT I thought they were the better team but look set on a draw now

Every time I watch this game it’s crap . Crappest derby in the world

Feisty tackles every now and then but atmosphere wise is shocking. Hardly an entertaining watch either, both teams set up being hard to beat each time they play

This sums up Ipswich. They seem to have the remnants of a “big club” image, but seem to be happy to coast mid table in the Championship. That said - they have just scored. Late run for the playoffs?

Three observations;

When Ipswich scored the Stewards immediately got in their way so the players couldn't celebrate with their fans.

Winning one nil in stoppage time, Ipswich did not just run the ball into the corner, but tried scoring a second.

1-0 down with seconds remaining and the Norwich fans were not streaming out in their hordes, but stayed there urging their team on - for which they were rewarded.

I think it’s that living on past glories (Forest, Leeds etc) & they think they deserve better when in theory a club who works hard for their subsequent success are seen as small & lucky.

Ipswich have decent facilities (training ground etc) so they haven’t had to spend money on improving the basics of the club but they seemingly haven’t put any of the funds saved from not having to improve their facilities into the playing staff.

On saying that, Mad Mick knows what type of players he wants & they don’t tend to cost large amounts as his main objective is to have hard working players first & foremost & that the talent will come through with the hard work but it’s clearly not as simple as that.

As for their transfer dealings, Mings brought them a huge profit as he was signed from Chippenham Town for a very small amount & sold on to Bournemouth for an extortionate amount on the back of Bournemouth making their move to The Premier League & he’s been really unlucky with couple of really bad injuries but it makes me wonder if Ipswich expect to unearth deals like that all of the time, which is just highly unlikely.

They were celebrating nowhere near their fans. They were down the other end.

I think it's safe to say that James Maddison will not be with them next season - he was running the second half.

By the sounds of it he’s in no rush for a big move, he just wants to play & not end up in someone’s U23’s. Quite refreshing to hear a young player wanting to play rather than chasing the money as soon as it’s offered & also shows that he has faith in his own ability.

He’s the kind of player who might go to a promoted club, or one that went up last season.  He’s getting better and better.

I’d guess that he’s happy to progress his career steadily & make the move up one step at a time so he can assure himself that he’s good enough to play for whatever club he goes to rather than getting his dream move now & not actually playing first team football & it all seeming like a waste of his career.

He wasn’t getting game time at Norwich last season & asked to go out on loan, which he did to Aberdeen & it’s clearly done him the world of good.

It was the Norwich fans sarcastically applauding the 16 years of Championship football for the Tractor Boys....
