Last season is irrelevant/We have a right to be annoyed

I got slated for suggesting that we needed do invest in a proven striker (at this level or above) in January, that with a left back (as for me we should have at least two specialists in every position) for me would have seen us cement the play-offs or auto, I get this gradually build strategy but chances like this don't come too often!!

We don't have the financial ability to pay the wages of a proven striker at this level or likely the £10m plus fee that would go with them.

Youth of today, they want everything NOW. Can you not see the progress? This is probject, if you want instant success go support Man City.

Been supporting them Club from 1957 and have seen only a few years in the top Division. Almost 40 years since we played there and never been in the Premiership. Running out of time to see us in the  top flight again.

Best chance for many years  and what do we do. Fail to invest in January and almost certainly continue to  hurtle down the table to obscurity . Potential for our best players to leave in the summer making progress next season a lottery .Am I wrong to want BCFC to get promoted NOW.

Instant success ! Must be more patient . 60 years a fan and counting .........

And what happens in the summer if we invested heavily, potentially over paying for players in the hope of buying our way to promotion? We're stuck with players who we've overpaid on, effecting how much we can spend in the summer when you should be doing your business.

Well we have people in the club whose job is to sign players. We were a top 6 championship club, and had just knocked man united out of the cup, and due to be playing man city twice.

We didnt have to magic players, we actually signed 3 didnt we?? One was a million quid and had made no impact when clearly we were desperate for some immediate support for smith and pack. One was a loan striker with a likely quite significant loan fee paid,,, presumably which would be offset against any transfer fee in the summer, and hes made no impact when clearly we were desperate for some inmediate support for reid. The other is a winger, where again there was probably a fair sized loan fee,  presumably to throw into the squad to compete against the likes of patterson, eliason and probably bryan, with O’Dowda due back within a couple of months.

real life might not be like a football game, but it certainly is possible for a championship club to sign a player in the january transfer window. If thats the best the club can come up with then thats fine,,, but dont start blowing smoke about going for promotion. We may as well not have bothered.

You can't know exactly how well a move will work before it happens as there are so many variables. We signed a winger who was fantastic at this level when at Barnsley, a central midfielder from a prem club (who's fans were devested he went - particularly for such a small fee) and a striker who was sold for 9m euros last summer. What degree they each have/will work out remains to be seen but it's not unambitious recruitment.

I think before the last ten games just gone we deserved to be in the play off, now we don’t, seems we’ve run ourselves into the ground face first but fallen on our arses, if we don’t make the play offs I will be upset, been great this year

It is clearly frustrating but we have to recognise the progress. If we miss the play offs then it's disappointing but compared to last season I'd take this season every time... and if next season is better again we're laughing...

Also loads to play for and some winnable games ahead.

Spudski, you’ve been quite active on this thread....fair play...but any chance of answering my query about TWO great cup runs this season?!

Sorry mate...thought I had. My apologise. It was a great Cup run...the other was indifferent ;-)

Far better then to not take the risk and blow our chance of promotion this season. How many seasons do we have the chance for promotion that we have this season ? May never happen again in my lifetime. Sincerely hope not though. You regret what you don't do in life far more than regretting things you have done.

We will IMO lose Reid , Bryan and Flint in the summer if we don't go up.

That's the thing, I have faith in our recruitment team to replace people we lose, if Reid, Bryan, Flint etc leave then I have faith we will reinvest well. I don't think overspending in the hope of chasing the dream is the right way to go, we saw how they ended 10 years ago when we started slipping down the table after our play off season. To sign a proven striker as said before costs £10m plus big wages, we smashed our record on Diedhiou and that was just over half the cost! We've said repeatedly that we're operating on a bottom half budget, overspending as suggested would seriously impact our ability to work financially in the next couple of windows.
