Milan Djuric the return of the Beast from the East

Can't seem to find the thread congratulating Djuric on his return from injury and winner on Saturday.

So here it is - Well done Milan. Looks like we have our Plan B when teams sit deep, and we need to be more direct.

I wasn't at the game on Saturday but I love how dominant he's been so far in the air. Hes not the quickest, but at only 70% percent fit he's only going to get stronger and faster. He could be the difference in the run in.

Posted

What surprises me is his strength. Looks quite a skinny lad but he holds off the defenders with ease.

Personally I’d like to see him have a run in the side with Bobby and as we have an international break coming up, it gives him another chance to get fully fit.

We need warriors and Milan is just that.

Thought he looked different in some ways Saturday and a great return performance.

I'm just wondering if we've ever seen a fit Milan until now.  Perhaps he's been carrying a niggling injury and now after touring the hospitals of Europe its finally resolved and he can concentrate properly on his game.  Perhaps Matty T is in the same category.

You've been warped by watching Tomlin. Skinny he isn't.  A career on the doors in central Bristol is available if he doesn't make it at the club!

I'd agree that if he scores, he's first choice next to Bob. Bit of genuine competition in the "big man" role for Fammy.

He is pretty skinny, but that's normal for someone of his height and build - he's pretty much an ectomorph. He's probably fairly strong though and would be able to match most centre halves.

Completely changed the game Saturday, what I liked was that he wasn’t just there for the long ball, he closed down and chased back also!

And he bullies defenders! When their CB towards the end, (Webster I think..?) started giving abuse to a fan/bsllboy ( didn’t see who..) Milan gave him an absolute tirade of abuse for it! Literally kept going for a good few minutes! Next time Frankie kicked it long Webster has literally ran away giving him a free header!

Think he will be a completely different player if he can stay fit pre season

Missed an absolute sitter. Should have cooly slotted that in. Great header though.

Pretty sure the keeper got something on that shot that dipped over

Hindsight is a great thing.

Should Milan have put it under the keeper instead?

My view from S22 row25 was that as keeper came flying towards the ball, it was at the top of a bounce. If Milan had delayed even a split second to wait for the ball to drop low enough to slide it under the keeper, the keeper would have smothered the ball.

IMO, Duric just got a little bit too much on it. Very fine margins decide things at the speed that games are played at.

It's good to see him back to help the cause. It will be interesting to see the contest next season between two fully fit strikers, Diedhiou and Duric.

Posted

If he was fully fit and available, would have banked on him scoring similar winning goals in the Burton game, and salvaging something from the Cardiff game.

Could hit a useful 3 or 4 goals between now and the end of the season.

Also, love the thread title!

I thought that too

So did I yet the ref gave a goal kick. If he did, that was one hell of a save, credit where it's due.

Not a chance he’s 100kg

I'm less than 100kg and there is no way he weighs more than me.  He may be tall, but he is wiry.

I would like to see him and Reid- somehow could see them complimenting other really well as a pair. Better than Diedhiou and Reid IMO- not individually necessarily, but stylistically.

A fully fit, injury free Djuric, would be a nightmare for any defence if utilised correctly I'd think. (Ideally, I think the Paterson behind Reid fluency etc, could be for the best but this is a very good Plan B).

99 kg unless internet is wrong. Flint only 76kg , I couldnt beleive it.

I can... How tall is he? 6'5" ?

I am 6'2 1/2", lets not forget the half, and i weigh 92kg and I am not a fatty.

Milan has the skills you need for the ‘big front man’ role plus loads of desire and high work rate.

If he can stay fit, a real asset.

Reminds me a bit of Flinty in his application and attitude and if we can’t have a team full of Flinty’s, a fit Milan will be a pick for me.

If you listen to LJs interviews over this season he's made references to having 'options' particularly from the bench. We've seen him put Flint up top in some games just to give a different physical presence and he must be as delighted as we are with having Djuric available again.

"another club in the bag' as he says.

Don't think anyone is calling Djuric a fatty,  he's just not my definition of "skinny".

Muscle weighs more than fat, so beefy, muscular players like Djuric will weigh more than tall weeds like me.

Beefy and muscular?! Unless you’re built like Mo Farah, Djuric looks slender with long limbs rather than powerfully built.

Saw Matty Taylor on Sat, he's tiny! Btw has anybody noticed how you never see him and David in Corrie in the same room!

Footballers always look smaller in real life, in the old days Dave Rodgers looked huge on the pitch but was a skinny looking chap off it.

I have never seen a player for us win so much of the ball in the air. He's useful enough with the ball at feet too.

I honestly think (with the caveat of him staying fit) that he could be an excellent signing for us and we will end up considering the fee for him to be an absolute steal.

I was by the Tunnel pre-match on Saturday and Djuric is flipping tall as is Hegeler.

As a bloke who is 6'4" I'd say it would be pretty easy for Djuric to be knocking on 100kg.

In my mid 20s I did a lot of martial arts  and cycling - lots of leg work but not much upper body stuff.  I got up to 98kg at my peak (about 10kg more than I am now). From that picture I would say that I am of a similar build to Djuric. I am by no means "heavily built" and find it pretty tough to pack on any muscle.

As further anecdotal evidence I have two mates who are Djuric's height, both are 95kg plus and that's without the life and diet of a pro athlete in the prime of his life.

I love seeing guys like Djuric and Flint play...even if they, like me, turn like an oil tanker.

Wouldn't describe him as skinny, more the wiry type-and they can be the really tough 'uns........as you say,the 'break comes for him at a good time.

Oh and do we want him to stay fit now. He has already, in one match, made a big difference.

Love that we use metric  for weight height and imperial for height  in this thread.! Duric is 100 kilos and 6 feet 7 inches

Nobody I know says their weight in kilos ,always stones and lbs.  EG New babies weight always in lbs and ounces .Height always in feet and inches .Nobody says I'm 1.8288 metres , they say I'm 6 foot!

Duric therefore is 15stone 12 lbs and 6 feet 7inches

He is tall. That's it. Not the shit football I like to watch. I'm willing to pay 20 pence for a long ball in to the box and some tall donkey stoping it home. It's shit and it's not the beauty of the game.

I’ve worked in and studied personal training and have a good knowledge, I’d say with confidence that he’s not 100kg just by sight.

Being 6ft 7” he’ll be strong, of course.

Put it this way - Deontay Wilder is listed at slightly heavier at 103kg and is the same height. The comparative difference in their physical appearance makes it obvious Djuric is nowhere near that weight. It’s a valid comparison because as they’re both pro athletes they’ll both probably have single digit % bodyfat.

I’m digressing here but I really like him. Great option to have and hopefully now his injuries are sorted we’ll see the best of him.

At the CHSW quiz last season we had to put the following players in height order (tallest to smallest):

Flint, Hegeler, Djúric, Giefer and Wilbraham.

Djuric at 6’7" was the tallest, then Flint, either Hegeler or Giefer next, followed by short-arse Wilbs.

I think Djúric has slim legs, but is quite thick set from his arse upwards.  It might be the fact that he needs huge shorts that make his legs look slimmer than they are.

Best goal I ever saw, Swede, was a long (looping) ball into the box and some tall Dutch bloke stoping it home. 1988 in Munchen.

Think Djuric would be better off heading that one, mind, rather than volleying it - or stoping it.

It was interesting in his interview last week that he said he was still only 70% fit and for the first time in years he was playing with no pain.

He will have a big part to play in the next eight games for certain.

I’m aware it’s a picture from a few months ago, but gaining much noticeable muscle and strength takes a lot longer than a few months. Especially when you factor in that players are basically endurance athletes now.

You are not just completely bonkers on everything but very wrong on this count Swede.  A bit of old fashioned wing play,  followed by a whipped in cross and a bullet header into the net is my favourite kind of goal.  I cite Wayne Allison's goal from Martin Scott's cross in the abandoned game Vs Liverpool back in '94, and Mike McIndo's header from Sproule's cross Vs Sheff Utd in 2007 as just 2 examples of this emphatic type of move and finish.  Look them up on YouTube,  I can't be bothered,  consider it homework as punishment for your wrongness.  And you would have preferred we hadn't scored on Saturday?!!!!

Gary Marshall ( I think) cross, Trevor Morgan header (back from where it came from!), probably the best headed goal I’ve seen at the Gate....v Chester.

Later in the game Waughie pulled off a fantastic wrong handed save to preserve a 1-0 victory.

Yep, generated a lot of power into that header.  A simple moment where most of us realised he was going to be an astute signing.
