Some might still remember times when things weren’t quite so glamorous for Bath City and they used to have to deal with Rovers squatting in their ground.

Only until they managed to steal the Rugby ground though and since then they’ve been striving to (without success) to match the plentiful facilities & plush surroundings that they once enjoyed at Twerton Park. Not to mention the heady height league positions they enjoyed during those “glory years” in fact, it’s almost 30 years ago that they pipped us to the 3 division title, thanks to their result against us at “fortress” Twerton. A league position that they can only dream of, 30 years later. They also used to enjoy the benefit of a ground that was made up of permanent structures, rather than an array of canvass adorned temporary event solutions.

It was shortly after this glorious period of their history that they set a new record transfer fee paid. Who’d have thought that would still stand almost quarter of a century later..!

Anyhow, there is today’s history lesson for those of a certain youthful age. For those of you under the legal age of alcohol consumption, this “Bristol Rovers” to which I refer, can be found several pages back from us, as you scan through the league tables on ceefax.

Ceefax.... oh, that will have to be a whole other topic, for you young’uns..!
