Reasons to be Cheerful .. 1, 2, 3

OK, so we didn't play well enough to take anything from the game at Sheffield Wednesday, but it's not all doom and gloom.

Here are some reasons to be cheerful .. (actually there's seven)

1) It's still in our own hands - win our next three games and we're in the play-offs.

2) If we beat Derby and then match the results of Middlesbrough and Derby's last two games that will be enough. I don't see both sides winning their last two matches based on current form.

3) Last season we beat Derby 4-1 at home. https://youtu.be/Gm5LOn9ykaA?t=340

4) Derby haven't won an away league game in 2019 (FYI, we've won 5: Stoke, Forest, Blackburn, Sheffield United and Middlesbrough.)

5) Derby's game in hand is away to Swansea, who still have a chance of making the top six if they beat Hull on Saturday (whatever the results elsewhere). And Swansea have won their last seven home matches against Championship opposition in a row, scoring 20 goals and conceding only 6.

6) Our game in hand is away to Millwall, who are likely to be safe by then even if they lose on Saturday. They have a three point and 15 goal advantage over Rotherham (who have to travel to WBA in their next game).

7) Hull can't make the play-offs so will have nothing to play for against us (or Swansea).

8) Derby's final game is against WBA, who will be looking over their shoulders at Villa and not wanting to give away home advantage in the second leg.

9) Middlesbrough's next game is against not-quite-safe yet Reading, who have frustrated us, WBA and Norwich as well as beating Brentford in their last four games.

Of course we still have a lot to do.

But it is do-able.

But quoting our away record in 2019 compared to Derby’s isn’t really relevant - because we are playing them at home.

Which was against West brom, a side similar to Derby in many respects.

Our home record is so poor because we fail to break down sides who stick men behind the ball and give us little room. I heavily doubt Derby will do that, they'll know that they need to win to keep them in 6th and boost their play off chances and so they'll come at us, which is when we are at our best.

In the run you've stated, we've only played 2 top 10 teams, Leeds (who were excellent) and West Brom (who we won against), the rest of the sides were lower mid table/ relegation strugglers and so they felt more inclined to play more defensively and hit us on the break, something we struggle against.

Personally, I think our home record goes out the window on Saturday. We have a massive chance against a team who will go for it as well. It's going to be massive

Doesn’t change the fact Derby have an awful away record.

A reason to be cheerful is that IF we beat Derby its back in our hands. We both have tough remaining games but theres is arguably tougher. Such a big moment in our season on sat!

Well, it already is in our hands. Win our games and we'll be in the play-offs.

Results against Derby and Millwall and then all set for Sunday May 5th 2019 that we can shake the Windass monkey of our bank and finally pay back Hull for the memories some 11 years ago!

ALWAYS BELIEVE (until the reality kills you? )

I knew our home form was not so good but seven years with one win - no wonder it's a bit quiet at AG;)

I have though bought into this everything is possible scenario and have tickets for both Derby & Millwall :fingerscrossed:

Totally agree JB - but I just fear that when this season is all over we will look back and realise that our home record cost us the chance to do something really special .....

We MUST win against derby & Millwall to stand a realistic chance imo

Actually, of course it would then be out of our hands, but it’s still, currently, not beyond the realms of all possibility that we could even lose to Derby, and STILL make the play offs..!

Crazy division..!

A draw or win on Saturday and it’s still very possible, looking at everyone’s fixtures.

Personally I'd just love is to beat Derby, we haven't won a weekend game at home since February 2nd so it'd be nice to shed that record.

After that, if we end up in 7th I'd be delighted with our season, a good few places higher than expected.

I really can't see us being good enough to win the play offs and losing in them might have a hangover effect gong into the next season when instead we can be on the beach resting and feeling really positive about it.

I disagree with you there. The pressure is all on us.

A draw leaves Derby sitting pretty and they know how frustrating the Gate can be for us.

Sorry, I disagree. A draw would leave Derby sweating on the Boro' scoreline and then they visit Swansea who have won their last 7 at the Liberty. Its equal pressure, but we can tip the balance by making the Gate a cauldron of noise. COME. ON. YOU. REEEEEEEEDS!!!!!!!

Weirdly, a draw would be fine for us so long as we then better their result in the game in hand fixtures. That's leaving a lot to chance though!

Exactly - they won't be coming gung ho - tightly packing midfield to frustrate us n reason why we have poor home record is we don't have the players to overcome that as other teams regularly prove. If we play hi tempo for 90 mins n don't have to start chasing the game in the second half then we are equal to or better than most.

If they come for a draw they will be committing suicide based on the 2 games they have left. Away to a Swansea side who have won 7 on bounce at home and home v a West Brom side who may need to win at their place to claim 3rd place and avoid Villa.

If you wanted to beat City at Ashton Gate, would you:

A) play expansive front foot football from the start and look to overwhelm City?

B) keep it tight, frustrate City, quiet down the crowd and play on the break, with spells of pressure?

Yeah I reckon that's how it could be. But I'm hoping for

C) early red card, penalty conceded, calamity defending and toothless up front, sending their fans back to Derby convinced that the playoffs are beyond them.

Go on Frank, make it happen...

We go into our last home game of the season with a chance of Prem football next season . Who wouldn't have taken that at the start of the season?  It's in our hands still and us supporters must raise the roof for the boys on Saturday.  Let's make the team hear and feel the noise. 100%  ecouragement from the first whistle to the last. If we don't let them down then maybe just maybe.......
