What do you do when you spot a city player?

Not City related but a couple- albeit mates rather than myself.

Mate who is an Everton fan a few years ago sat opposite Atsu and either Martinez or Kenwright on a train back to Liverpool.

Later that day, they confirmed the loan- he could've got a scoop, but alas he's no journo...

Also on the theme of players- Rooney by all accounts according to friend who lived in Manchester in 2000's, when he was peak or early Man Utd, can't remember, was pretty happy to sign autographs always- even when out at a restaurant, well he was that evening anyway, don't know if it was always the case or!

For the last 3 years in June I've flown from Bristol to Nice and 3 times I've sat next to somebody famous.

The last time was a footballing legend who's greatest achievement can't be matched by any footballer in the world, Sir Geoff Hurst. I didn't bother him but did point him in the right direction outside the terminal in Nice.

The other 2 times it was Noel Edmonds, who I accused if stalking me the 2nd time he got on and sat next to me and my wife. He seemed a decent chap tbf

Can't wait to see who it'll be in a couple if weeks time

I sat near Jamie Paterson on a train back to London after the Forest-City game in the season where we were in the middle of our dreadful losing streak. I didn't say anything because

a) We'd lost and there wasn't a lot to say. I doubt he wanted to discuss that bloody performance any more than I did.

b) After the conversation petered out we'd have been stuck in close proximity on a train for two hours and it would have been awkward...

Also, bit niche but a few years ago I stood in a queue at artist catering at a music festival behind Seasick Steve and Warren Ellis from Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds. I didn't say anything but there is something quite entertaining about watching two respected musicians, one of whom I'm a massive fan of, try to figure out how to use a coffee machine..

Personally, I  would say nothing, buts that's probably because I once saw Andy(rew) Cole in Jaspers in Park Row years ago when I was but a nipper. I tapped him on the shoulder and said something along the lines of "thanks for the goals mate, I hope you keep it going". I got a look like I had just told him his Mrs has a bigger cock than him and his daughter takes it up the arse.

Ffs mate,  just take the compliment.

On a completely different note, a friend of mine went to the cricket world cup in India a few years back. He got in a lift at his hotel and Rahul Dravid got in just after him. They struck up a conversation and Dravid (possibly the greatest batsman ever, and nearly a God in India) invited my mate to go to the ground the next day to watch the indian youth team train and to watch the 1st team play afterwards. "Just tell them Rahul said it would be ok and if you get any problems get them to ask me and I'll sort it out".

There's the difference between someone who has a high opinion of themselves and someone that other people have a high opinion of but they are happy to be as normal as possible.

Maybe thats just the difference between thinking you're great and actually being great?

On the rare occasion I’ve spotted a city player I’ve given them a smile and a nod, but as others have said if they’re out with their families I leave them be.

The only “celebrity” in football I’ve had a long conversation with happens to be hollowhead of all people. Went to a local boozer in a small town outside Bath to watch the Wolves cup game this season - turns out Ian lives in said town and had been at the pub for lunch with his family, he pulled up a chair and watched the full 90 minutes with me! Was a surreal experience but he suprisingly had a lot of positive things to say about city and the new stadium (and a lot of negative things to say about the gas and the way the clubs run). Think he was mildly pleased at the result though ?

Interesting this thread being here, yesterday I saw Kelly Lloyd in Cabot Circus, sat down with a friend, and after a moment of debate I went over and offered all the best for the future and asked him a couple of questions about Bournemouth.

As you would expect, he was very polite and seemed happy to talk for a minute.

Just has to be done, but who's Kelly Lloyd and what's the connection with Bournemouth?

While Louie Donowa was here & he was living in Chipping Sodbury, I took him & his brother-in-law to what was known as the hippy festival (locally), it was basically where a large group of travellers would take over the local common / golf course & would proceed to carry out a massive rave for a weekend or until they were moved on by the police!

He had a few run-ins with the police while driving through the common & when I went to get him from home, out he came, bottle of champagne in hand & off we went. The rest as they say, gets kept to myself but Louie was a huge rave fan & literally had a couple of rooms full of 12” records & this was during the off season, so it wasn’t a problem (apart from for his missus when we returned home at gone 4am!)

The late, great Derek Dougan once asked me for directions to the County Hotel in Taunton - he was the after dinner speaker at a function there.

Playing cricket at Easton in Gordano (behind the Rudgleigh) in 1985 (Day Of Live Aid) and a gold Ford Escort Courtesy Car turns up.  Was Alan Border, Aussie Captain, asking for directions to Ashton Court Country Club (Redwood Lodge).  I had no idea where it was, so had to get someone else to tell him.
