Bristol City v Middlesbrough Match Day 6

Quite the week. Quite the sodding week.

Poor old Bury were shafted by both their owner and the EFL. Talk about a kick in the teeth. They can choose to launch legal action regarding the EFL decision but have been told the EFL won't change their mind. Saint Basso (always believe) even tried to save them but it wasn't to be. Some things I want to know can be summed up in a letter sent to the EFL from Bury, published by BBC Sport...

The club have since sent a letter to the EFL setting out a list of questions - seen by BBC Sport - including:

  • Why a late £7m bid from Brazilian multi-millionaire pastor Gustavo Benedito, which emerged on Tuesday afternoon, was not accepted. Benedito is a close friend of Bury's goalkeeping coach Adriano Basso.
  • Why the EFL said that a bid from an Italian consortium had not been received when the club insist it had.
  • Why the offer from C&N Sporting Risk was the only one accepted by the EFL and the only one granted an extension.
  • Why is it proportionate to consider dropping Bury five leagues - the club want the EFL to consider dropping them down to League Two instead.
  • Why owner Steve Dale passed the fit and proper person test.
  • Why the EFL refused to meet with representatives of Bury on Friday.

Quite. Especially when you see the absolute shit show that was Bury owner Steve Dale in a radio interview. How on earth did that man pass a test?

It's like Santa's sadistic twin isn't it?

So that's why I think both Steve Dale and the EFL are complicit in Bury's demise. Steve Dale doesn't seem to give a toss and I highly doubt anyone on the EFL board is losing any sleep but it shows a precedent. One wrong 'un can slip through the net. The EFL need to tighten their own policies.

Luckily for Bolton, they've escaped the same. Ken Anderson (probably the smarmiest man in football - totally has a face you could slap shit out of) continued to cause issues right up to the signing of paperwork. Quelle surprise. Another wrong 'un that slid through the process. He really doesn't give a flying **** does he? Like the Cheshire cat, he conducted all interviews with that wide grin. He knew full well what he was getting into and he knew full well what would happen. The man is just plain awful.

Still, Bolton fans are getting their last little pieces of revenge. Ken and his son own a restaurant and Bolton fans have been... slightly negative... when reviewing it...

If you click on the tweet and delve into the replies, there are more examples.

Whilst it's childish behaviour and petty, I can understand it. This man was paying himself £500k per annum out of Bolton's coffers, whilst still looking at any way to squeeze the cash. Bolton fans are rightly disgusted and upset.

But they survived. Bolton will live on. Bury won't. Hopefully, like the Phoenix rising, they'll do a Wimbledon or Clydebank and be back in a few years. Time will tell. Basso always believes.

On to today.

Jonathan Woodgate hasn't had the best start to his time as manager. Picking up the pieces after Hurricane Tiny Penis is a pretty difficult thing anyway. 1 win (against Wigan) in 5 for Boro with draws against Millwall and Luton and losses against Blackburn and Brentford, new manager bounce hasn't really kicked in yet. Perhaps it won't.

1-1 draw or a 2-1 win for us if we're lucky and we dig in. Weimann and/or Afobe to score.

COYRS!

Boro not doing so well under Woodgate.  We have 3 wins on the bounce and I am expecting another 3 points today to peopel us to the top - even if it is only for 21/2 hours.

Just sat in the car in the rain in Ashton Gate reading the forum, waiting for the team news and feeling confident.

2-0 City with a goal from Afobe and another from Baker.

Brilliant Peg!

A superb summary of the past week for Adriano and his place of employment.

You've got a great writing style. You ought to seriously think about writing a book.

Meanwhile, only eight lines on a thread about today's opposite team. Must be a record!

Very early KO for City, very late KO for the match thread!

Hope that's not Weimann wide right, needs to be up front with Afobe.

I'd normally agree but thought that there were some promising signs of a good understanding developing with Hunt towards the end of the Hull game.

Afternoon all!  Just made it back from Sat morning shopping with the Mrs. Just seen the game is listed on hesgaol, so it will be the usual watching with commentary from RB, think it will be a hard fought fight, but see us coming out with the three points.  COYR's

Here is the team

                 Bentley
Hunt. Moore Baker. Rowe
Weimann Bhill Massengo Elliason
                Palmer
                Afobe

Could be multiple formations. Would be a shame to not see Afobe with a defined partner. Him and Weimann have looked like they are in each other’s wavelength.

Like to see Andi & Nic swap sides at some point.

Williams on the bench in case we need to go 352

I don’t. Always feel Weimann loses himself when he goes left.

Of course it could be a midfield right to left of:

Eliasson / Brownhill / Massengo / Palmer

Weimann / Afobe

Would be massively worried if Rowe’s support was Palmer

See Boro target our left side like most teams this season. Hope Rowe can cope with it.

I'm unsure if this is sarcasm or a compliment so I'll take it as a compliment :D

Still feel nervous about Baker and Moore as a 2. Hope I'm wrong but think they might have a tough day

Hobson’s choice really, it’s what we have left. Just a few weeks ago would have got pretty long odds on that being our back four.

Was confident of a City win but after the sky coverage it’s bound to be 1-0 Boro...

Assombalonga had a baby on Thursday and if he scores it’ll be his 100th league goal. He’ll score, do the baby celebration, do bugger all for the rest of the game, get man of the match and dedicate the goal to his new baby.
