#76: Spaghetti Bolognese

Recommended Posts

Stanley is joined by Oscar who triumphantly returns and Jamie who kindly cooks the team a delicious dinner.

As it's the last episode before the international break I've done very little editing so it's a much longer episode than normal.

We discuss Brentford, Reading and Antoine Semenyo...

Bolognese should never be served with spaghetti.

It needs a flat pasta such as Tagliatelle or Papardelle for the ragu to cling to.

I make it every Saturday. Our favourite meal.

Like your podcasts. Thanks.

I'm not really one for meat pastas personally. Partial to a puttanesca more than anything.

Conchiglie, tagliatelle and fusilli probably my top three pasta shapes in case you're wondering.

Then it wouldn’t be called spaghetti bolognese!!!

what are your thoughts on a penne pasta being used instead?

At the age of 76 and still reasonably fit and healthy, I'll continue the present diet if that's OK with you?

As long as you feel full after & can manage the high carbs then good for you

This whole thread makes me hungry!

As I am having a cheeky few days away staying in a static VW camper in a beautiful little Orange Grove in Tavira, Portugal (very few plastic national flags or Messango wigs, which I know will annoy Rob and Stan ) the long version will be perfect with some of the local Vino...

Do you have time to produce an culinary spin-off? 'A conchiglie with' doesn't have the same ring to it in my opinion.

Never read such nonsense!

It’s not nonsense at all.

They will laugh you out the city if you ask for spaghetti bolognese in Bologna. It’s served with Tagliatelli or Tortellini. They will tell you that spaghetti is for Naples, not Bologna.

I like it a la cottage pie, too. Or in a pancake on Shrove Tuesday.

Now that's just wrong.  I'm sorry but you've crossed a line there. :redcard:

Like playing Dasilva as centre forward.  Just not right.

Good listen Stan....good contributions from Jamie and Oscar, and liked the various opinions on Semenyo.

Yes, a lot of hype about him, and mixed performances so far, but he’s only had 120 minutes in those 3 games (57, 45, 18).  The 57 v Preston was a decent contribution.  Just watched back on Wyscout and involved regularly.  Brentford more anonymous, Reading poor.

Is he the answer?  Probably not yet, but needs minutes, the odd 80-90 from the start, the odd 20 from the bench.

Until January who do we make 7th sub (club developed if no other reason)?  Might as well be Semenyo as anyone else.  Bakinson is not likely to be given the nod when Nagy is back.

Thanks @Shtanley another great episode.

The debate on Semenyo was needed and well balanced I thought.

The point on the White Stripes song was brilliant too that is SO annoying. Apart from being an inappropriate and crap song anyway having any song blaring out literally until the ball is kicked kills any atmosphere. I hope this basketball nonsense stops soon!
