Derby’s Presser

That rest of the tweets read to me as if there’s a bit of a power struggle going on. Rosenior says “It’s no secret I want to be a manager”. Rooney says “I want to be a manager”. Rosenior says “the players need clear messaging”. Rooney says “we need to get the right messages to the players”. Rosenior says “I did my badges early”. Rooney says “I’m doing my badges but that shouldn’t stop me managing now”.

They may well be working together right now, but I’m sure behind the scenes Liam must be thinking “if this bloke, without any qualifications, gets the job above me....”

Wonder whether he applied for our job? Rosenior I mean.

I couldn’t read all the tweets... I saw the word “identity” early on and it gave me a nasty flashback!

Fully expect there is.

Rosenior is still very young at 36 but clearly took the coaching job there as an entry level one to being a manager & like our current head coach would see a vacancy coming up at the club he was already at, as “his to go for”.

Rooney of course will see it completely differently..

Could all be academic anyway if the rumoured interest in Steve Cooper at Swansea or Rafael Benitez turns out to be true.

I thought the same.  Let’s hope it leads to mix messages and indecision in selection and system.

I’ve seen him do a few bits of punditry.  One occasion I thought he was really, really good, on another I thought it was boring old cliche stuff.

When you thought he was good, what did he say that was interesting? I've never seen that side of him but if he has it, happy to be persuaded.

That’s what I get from him to be honest. Comes across as a bit of a smart arse too imo.

It was stuff about movement and creating space for others and how it dragged out of shape, not just for the pass but the one after that, 3rd runners and that type of stuff.  I was a bit shocked...although the next time it back to crap punditry.

 Basic stuff then.

I’ve got nothing against Rooney. Brilliant player, lots of talent. Enjoyed watching him play in his prime.
But I’ll never be convinced that he’s a thinker, a tactician, a motivator.
Happy to eat humble pie, but I honestly can’t see a career for him as a manager.

It might seem basic stuff, but to most football watchers they don’t see / understand stuff like that.  You only need to read OTIB to know that a lot of this stuff goes over people’s head.

Im certainly not suggesting he’s a tactical mastermind but that night he was pretty good.  He wasn’t on other occasions though.

I’ve got no feelings on his future career or his current skills..

New owner will make the decision. Hopefully, after they  get thrashed on Saturday he will look elsewhere!

Yeah it may be basic stuff to talk about but top football players struggle to deal with, or pull off sometimes. Also sounds like coaches struggle to enforce it. Maybe I am just a noob to analysis and drills.

Well looks like Rooney and Rosenior both want it, so hopefully there's  a power struggle going on, that affects the players, and we thrash them.

Don't care what happens afterwards, although Rosenior could be one to watch on the coaching/management scene. Always seems to talk a good game to be honest.

Reckon Rooney will either run the show for them Saturday (if we give him the room), OR he will get really frustrated (if we close him down) and get a red card!

I'd play Massengo to man mark him.

Depends where they play him.  He’s not had a fixed position all season, nor has he played anywhere near the levels of last season.

Rooney has a great football brain. Even though he’s a bit passed it well I think as a competitive player he still has the skills in regards to psychology in getting the best out of the young players around him. He’s still a danger to us.

we should have 3 points in the bag this weekend as the following week against Watford will be the one where we can really see where we sit with the class teams of this league and here’s hoping for another 3 points.

I have a mate in Perth ex copper from London who is a massive hornets supporter and we are going to watch it together at the casino in perth.

I suppose I mean it’s basic stuff for someone who will have been playing pro-football for 16 years or so, having this drilled into him on a no doubt daily basis.
It’s certainly Entry Level Tactical Analysis for a 16 year pro to point out that movement creates space.

Indeed. However I just feel, in Rooney’s case, it’s a question of IQ.
Not wishing to slag him off at all, as I’ve said, I rate him as a footballer, but he doesn’t have a high intellect. Most successful managers do.

Totally agree. Rooney though is still respected by young players in any team he plays for and this brings positive wins and vital points.

I also class Rooney as a down to earth English bloke that loves his beer and football no matter what.

Oh, definitely....hasn’t become a bad player overnight, and if you give him time (which we did for 25 mins last season) he can still pull strings if he’s playing in midfield.

In terms of my preview (will post it here after the press conference), I have Derby going 4231 with Rooney in as the central attacking midfielder, playing between the midfield and Waghorn.  But I’ve obviously no idea.

Re Watford....stop it, I’m getting jealous!

Massengo will be over whelmed by Rooneys stature. Massengo if he marks him needs to front up and be aggressive and this is not Massengo unfortunately.

Crown casino Dave. You probably know it well. It’s only 15 minutes from Freo
