Popular Post samo II
12 hours ago, Smaller than a flea said: So it's not all luck then. Early days, but one point off the playoffs. You must be horrified at the thought we might be coming for you. A bit of context; you edge past a team at home who six years ago were a midtable league two side, while we hit four without response against a team who at the same point six years ago were Europa Cup finalists, and more recently than that a premier league side, and you think that is some kind of proof of your progress/comparable to our efforts? Back in your box, lad. I've always said you would level out at league one, and haven't changed my mind; I think you'll likely finish comfortably midtable, and then next summer we'll see if the momentum that took you from non-league gets built on. Frankly; I doubt it - your owner seems fly-by-night, and I don't fancy him dropping the sort of coin that will be needed to stop your best players leaving or to replace them. Cue your manager getting poached, an inability to replace him with someone capable of galvanising the free transfers and loans they'll be left with, and the inevitable slide back to the fight for survival. The concept your club are in anyway close to catching us in terms of facilities, playing staff, resources and just any aspect you can imagine is genuinely laughable; if I were a sag (a terrifying thought) I'd be GLAD I wasn't in the championship and getting directly compared to our own set up - would only add emphasis to the epic chasm between us. And BTW - we've more points than you, a better goal difference and are two points off the playoffs spots in our division to the one you are in yours; the fact you consider your position cause to speak about you "coming for us" while we're not here talking about moving even further ahead of you speaks volumes about the mentalities of our respective fan bases. Your unhealthy obsession with reaching parity due to the scored of years spent in our shadow compares badly to our desire to build a club able to support itself and bring sustained success. It's slightly depressing to see, in all honesty. 12 hours ago, Smaller than a flea said: You make a fair point, but we can only play the teams we have in this league, and if we beat Port Vale, who were 5th this morning, then that is a good result, especially with our £20m striker Matty Taylor out with a hamstring thingy. We were also missing two of our most influential midfielders in Korey Smith and four-time Championship promotion-winning captain O'Neil, yet still kept a clean sheet and scored four - that your top striker (who has scored the majority of his goals outside of league football and who turned his back on his boyhood club after agreeing a move there, and then proceeded to mock them when next playing them; classy fellow) was missing doesn't really mean much to us. Especially when we have the top scoring player in the football league who is a good eight years Mr Taylor's junior. I'm not prone to the sort of bragging that the above looks like, but when the supporter of some former non-league mob (who for all intents and purposes stole their ground from another sports team and now bulked this out with tents, and who's Chelsea fan owner seems adverse to buying players despite his apparently bottomless wealth and the club having two promotions in two years) tries to talk about them even coming close to emulating the progressive and professional set-up we're putting together at City, I think it's worth pointing out how ridiculous that is, and reminding them of a few choice facts.

So it's not all luck then. Early days, but one point off the playoffs. You must be horrified at the thought we might be coming for you. Crap striker, crap manager, crap owner, crap fans. How is this happening? League one is a harsh division, most teams are middling and beat each other, you will go on runs, then a losing streak, it will seem random as most clubs are on a par. There are a few teams that will rise to the top, it's those that spend a little money. There is not a embarrassment of riches in L1, any club willing to spend on those 4 - 5 better players can stay at the top of L1 and / or gain promotion - in fairness it's what we did, and there is little other clubs can do about it. You can be plucky / lucky for the odd game but over the season class prevails. If you want out of L1 you will need to buy those players. Your current tactic is the exact one all the other teams are using - evolution, team work, coaching, can do attitude, never give up, finding the odd gem, fight for each other.... everyone is doing this, what the other teams are not doing is spending £100,000 - £500,000 per player to gain promotion by buying class, as they simply do not have the money. I don't think Taylor is a crap striker, he perfectly good in L2, probably ok for L1. Your manager again is probably a decent L2/L1 manager, your fans though a little dopey at times are not really any different from fans from 100's of other clubs and to think you are would be delusional. Your owners seems to have around £70 million in assets and some business acumen, which is more than a lot of clubs, how much liquidity he actually has to put into the club we don't know. But he seems a nice enough chap, he was shopping around for a club and settled on you - I imagine the Mem and UWE was a large part of that as there was the potential for a large asset grab for a moment in time. But I don;t see that he is not genuine in wanting to run the club and do well... hell I imagine we would all love to be club owners instead of whatever daily grind we actually do. Your club is owned by Dwane Sports who are registered in your fans hated tax avoiding islands. Dwane Sports are also part of another entity, so until we see some accounts we don;t even know if your clubs debts were paid of, or just moved into another company for now. If you get out of L1 it will depend one thing money, that extra % more than the other clubs in your league can do is buy quality players... so we will see if your owner steps up. Anyway a belated welcome back to the football league....
