The same scummy club who also decided to change history when trying to sell it to a supermarket by saying it was only the gates that was a memorial to the fallen people of Bristol from the first World War. The whole ground was donated in memory. The clue's in the name.

It's a fact that seems to get lost on most people.

The gates are the vocal point of the ground because of the remembrance Sunday service and the fact some of our "fans" thought it would be funny to graffiti the gates.

Not one of our finest moments if so, was it ever proved it was some of our fans that did it?

Don't think it was ever proven. The Rovers statement at the time referred to persons purporting to be City supporters. Despite proof either way fairplay to City for quickly bringing in a specialist contractor to clean them up. Probably ended up looking better than they did before the incident.

Nobody connected with the gash seems worried because it will apparently only take a week to put up.

Once built it will surely need some kind of safety inspection/certificate won't it? Does anybody know?

Imagine how low one's expectations must be when you can be smug that a new stand will only take 1 week to build  & fit out..!

Surely it will take longer than a week to decorate, put up required signage & install all the concessions facilities..?

Have they even got a dodgy sky box ordered to be able to stream Babestation to the masses yet..?

As far as I'm aware, the actual build (which I'm assuming must be some kind of modular, click together type solution) doesn't actually take very long atall - it's all the dressing of the new structure that takes time & then, as many have already said - test events & getting the safety certificates issued...

If it only takes a week or 2, then why not have had it done already.?!

I've seen these stands in action for cricket. At Taunton, the stand is on existing tarmac parking. At Bristol, on grass with temporary matting just in case of rain. To plonk a stand on bare mud would be a interesting proposition. Maybe the shop restocking is introducing the new Gas boot cleaning kits.

I think it was, and the supporters club rallied round cleaned it and implemented a collection for charity if I recall

Takes less than 30 seconds to put up a pasting table.

I'm no expert, plus a tad cynical , but maybe it was deliberate.

They had the necessary public meeting midweek during working hours apparently.
They held off planning application until the last minute.
They started clearing the site before any consent had been granted.
They seem to be going ahead before the Planning application has been heard.

I wonder if they are trying to pressure the Powers that be into green lighting it all .
Add the delay for SAG checks it does look odd. They will blame everyone else if they don't get the go ahead, and the fans (or most of them and the Post ) will lap it up with one flash of a nice watch.

It’ll only take a week to put up…..on absolutely sodden ground due to all the rain we’ve had….sounds totally fine ?

I was recently down the pub with a gas head mate and after a few pints the nonsense started coming out (from a usually sound mind) claims of “the only thing city have over rovers is the stadium” “tilson isn’t their record signing” apparently they broke that record at some point since 2000. “Wael has money, but doesn’t want to waste it and spends it wisely. They’re not in hardly any debt as Wael does what lansdown does and coverts it to shares”. “They’re building the club up behind the scenes and will be in the championship soon” and finally once they get “their” new stadium what are city gonna do then as rovers will be equal and challenging them. I asked about the free stadium and the response was, it’s all made up be jealous city fans and the sale of the cabbage patch with Waels millions will they will self fund the stadium.

Witnessed this fascinating phenomenon myself. I think it can be summed up thusly:

I'd even forgotten to mention the planning situation.!

In my opinion (& not just this project, but anyone just carrying on with work before being granted the appropriate planning) should automatically have it rejected.

It's taking the Mickey to just build what you want & then bother getting the clearance for doing so - when everyone else wants until it's granted to begin work.

I hate to give them any credit but I believe the base is the one thing that has been put in place

If they have, then it doesn't look like they've done a very good job, if that photo above is anything to go by. Looks like mud to me :dunno:

It was mentioned in this thread many pages ago, that the groundworks etc were completed

But do agree with you that closer pictures make it look a right mess

And, presumably, there’s no question of them getting a safety certificate until the planning consent has been granted. And any/all provisions complied with. ?

I saw an article recently , though not the same interesting. Developers demolished a Pub without permission.

To go ahead without permission would seen arrogant at best. I know some do get a jump on things, I've seen enough Grand Design programs to know that. But they are houses that haven't had dozens of complaints.

Some on here may know the answer to this;
What would/could happen if they built it and the planning office wanted time to consider the complaints ?
Would they be allowed to get the safety side signed off ?
Would they be allowed to use the Stand ?
Or would the entire area be off limits until planning and safety has been passed ?

I'm sure someone will know.

If you build without consent then you can certainly be required to take it down completely. And will be, if the consent isn’t granted (after appeal etc etc)

Demolition is a bit different. This one was a grade 2 building. I doubt anyone would see any merit at all in the collection of tents that was taken down at the Mem

They couldn’t use it without a safety certificate. Simple as. I’m assuming that wouldn’t be granted if there was no planning, but I’m not sure about that.

Genuinely, their admin is tweeting with the coordinates for Eastville followed by a picture of an IKEA.

Because I’d like nothing more than to commemorate the fact I’d lost my traditional home and seen it replaced by a megastore.

Better crowds at the mega store.

What were they getting before leaving Eastville? Less than 4k iirc.

This is interesting, as with the pub, the developers were ordered to rebuild it as it was listed. Surely the old tent structure, demolished by Rovers, must have historical value, as it was unique across the entire football league. Perhaps Rovers should be ordered to reinstate it
