I'm told that after "someone at the football club spoke to someone at the council" they were given the impression that because the proposed new structure is not as tall as the plans approved in 2008, the application process should be quick and straightforward.

It seems they've now been assured that's not the case at all. The local councillor has requested that the application be referred to Development Committee rather than be determined by the officers. The club have belatedly engaged a planning consultant to gather the necessary additional documents for the application, but these are yet to be submitted.

So it's all looking quite promising then.

That's exactly right. They are honestly so shambolic. They'll get planning but this episode once again proves what a tinpot outfit they are.

And some of their fans think the club will deliver an actual new stadium at the fruit market ??

One of their senior directors bought a basket of fruit at Sainsbury’s once (pre-boycott) and therefore assumed the process will be similar

It's a calamitous situation. Anyone involved in planning/construction/real estate (or anyone with basic common sense) is aware of the risks associated with the planning system in England, especially in a city like Bristol, where there is an informed and active community. At the end of the day, it's just a small stand. If they had followed professional advice, conducted a thorough public consultation, and submitted a well-prepared application in a timely manner, they would likely have obtained planning permission without any issues. However, their decision to start work without permission, along with their subpar application and insufficient time given to the Council to review it, has led to a self-inflicted mess. They've essentially caused this problem themselves. Undoubtedly they’ll start blaming the Council and everyone but themselves. However the fact of the matter is it all could’ve been avoided if they had done the job properly.

Tinpot time again. A new lottery scheme to fund their academy. The "Pirates Pot" :laughcont:

Apparently less than 50 turned up to the launch of this, they were expecting nearer 150.

Pretty obvious why if you scroll back half a dozen pages on this thread & no doubt in a few years they’ll be saying 300 turned up & more were locked out.

Tinpot *****.

The way things are going with there stand I can see Bristol with an underground system before that stand gets built

and we all know that underground system ain’t gonna happen ( nothing happens in Bristol that needs the council backing and funds )

They’ve got themselves in real mess and it’s all for a little tiddler of a stand!

"The council has advised the club that no work should take place before permission is granted."

And that's why it currently looks like landfill.

I’m working on a site in south mead and got talking to someone working on the new stand at travis Perkins

he blamed the ground works for a lot of the problems and the big hold up. Never got the chance to ask about planning issues

Never got the chance to ask about the planning issues as you were doubled over with laughter about the groundwork’s bullshit ,

And yet they are still going full speed ahead with the build, the pile holes have all been drilled. No regard for due process or for the local community, sadly.

On 2nd look at the steps, they appear to have struck coal during the foundations work.

Could be the only rich seam of form they will find this year.

You are quite correct.

The plateau on which the Memorial Ground pitch sits was formed through infilling the existing land with waste material from the South Wales coal pits. Whether this provides a suitable base to carry the weight of a steel grandstand with 3500 people perched inside must be open to question.

No, the big hold up is because not one of the dopey ***** that works at that club thought "I wonder if a stand with a capacity of over 3,000 people needs planning permission?"

If you live in Bradley Stoke then the chances are you need planning permission for a conservatory. Yet not one ******** that works at a supposedly professional football club, thought an entire new stand might need permission.

Tinpot.

Thanks for the info, makes you wonder what that does for the groundwater. Must have taken a while for it all to compact.

I have never been there but as soon as the old stand was removed it was clear it was on a perch over the nearby houses which made any height increase a factor in planning.

I have said in this thread for a while they should develop the Mem but your inside info suggests there could be some expensive foundations required. The infill you mention makes the piling make sense.

I'm sure that if Joey and his scouse posse pay a friendly visit to the planning office they would be able to "persuade" them to give permission. We wouldn't want anybody to have a nasty accident after all.?

They will be given the standing terrace on the side

They have to offer a certain amount of seating to away fans. I believe they’ve yet to send Barnsley any info regarding tickets with the game just 2 weeks away. That club is the definition of tinpot.

I see that one of the councillors has raised an issue with the contractors and work being carried out regardless despite no planning permission.

It's the perfect thing to do antagonise the people you are trying to convince to grant you planning permission.
