Well and truly out of their hands now. I’m pretty convinced they are gonna win both of their last two games but they need three teams to drop points now.

A few tough games for others around them and a couple playing each other as well. Their goal difference could even be turned around as well against Scunthorpe on the last game if others drop theirs. I think if they win both they will be up, as I think Northampton will drop points against Exeter Saturday. Will be surprised if the others win both of their games too.  I would love to be wrong though.

Northampton have Exeter H, Barrow A

Mansfield have Salford A, Forest Green H

Port Vale have Newport H, Exeter A

When they only needed a draw!! ??????

Mansfield really couldn’t give a **** ?

Forgave them for 87 and will always have a soft spot for that club.

None of the three are playing each other. If you’re talking about Exeter, they already secured promotion last night and can’t be caught. Northampton could draw with Exeter and beat Barrow which should be enough, unless the sags make up seven or more goals over two games. Possible but unlikely. Mansfield look to have the hardest fixtures with two games against teams with all to play for.

Don't mean to be pedantic but how did they manage that when nobody played on Monday?

They only sealed promotion by winning this evening

I think the gas will finish 3rd now after looking at the remaining fixtures with other teams playing one another.  To be honest If they finish 3rd with 80 points then good luck to them.

No, bollox to them!

Anyhow all went wrong for the gash tonight, every result against them !

It would be sooo like them to **** up against relegated Scunny  ,last day !

7 from 10 (realistically 9) - The gas have the worst GD (bar Tranmere, who seem to have hit the wall)

6 points and some kind results (Exeter play Port Vale and Northampton, Port Vale play Newport and Exeter, Mansfield play Salford and Forest Green!!) - and it's autos.

4 points mean 100% play-offs

3 points mean Swindon and Sutton can go past them.

It is however completely in their own hands. A loss at Rochdale would not surprise - Dale have only lost 1 out of the last 16 home games.

Then already relegated Scunthorpe await at home........perhaps Sir Colin should be calling their kit-man and tell them to leave their strips at home and borrow Rovers away clobber.....

Tell you what Rovers v Swindon will be proper old-skool in the play-offs. All days off cancelled for Wiltshire, A+S and Sth Wales constabularies I'd reckon - potential for huge problems.

But looking at the fixtures Port Vale, Mansfield and Northampton have, the auto's are still a silly chance.  All comes down to Rovers winning both, and Northampton v Barrow (who are safe from the drop)

What an end to the season.

A bit like when Beadle equalised in the last minute for Rovers at Ashton Gate and a number of City fans ran into the East End lashing out at anyone in the away end resulting in prison sentences for some you mean?

Hang on, FGR won promotion, Rovers ‘equalised’ in a meaningless fixture. Also, FGR fans came spilled onto the pitch to celebrate their success and hug each other and capture a special moment with their phone cameras.

Rovers fans immediately jumped the barriers when Beadle scored the equaliser and started making rude and goading gestures to the Dolman. This is what triggered some City fans at the time.

Exhibit A. Gashead goon straight over the barrier as soon as the ball hits the net.

Exhibit B. A Gashead goon scrambling back into the terrace.

Whilst the actions of supporters from some City fans were inexcusably bad that day it was typical of Rovers fans to try playing the innocent victims, even though they invaded the pitch whilst not only celebrating, but deliberately goading City fans in the Dolman.

This was the beginning of numerous pitch invasions during the Bristol derbies culminating with the bad one in 2014.

This scenario was absolutely nothing like the FGR match. Rovers fans can’t wait to have a go at Ted’s and then play the innocent victim when in reality they are equally as bad and on numerous occasions the instigators of trouble.

Apologies, I meant teams around each other and more likely to drop points somewhere. Exeter will surely be looking at going up as Champions now, they are the form team of the division, but hopefully they have a hangover Saturday or a few think the job is done. Northampton could draw and beat Barrow, but Scunthorpe are that bad then I can see that goal difference actually turn around. Although Northampton could draw Saturday and also beat Barrow by a few which would mean no chance. I still see the Sags winning both of their games and getting top 3, but hope I'm wrong, and hopefully they don't beat Rochdale and that puts an end to the top 3.

You seemed to be totally missing my point and then proving it all in the same post!

FGR invaded the pitch and a few of them goaded Rovers fans who then in turn ran onto the pitch, the FGR fans who did the goading were pricks as were the Rovers fans who responded.

The Rovers fans who goaded the City fans after Beadles equaliser were pricks, as were the City fans who responded.

There are obviously differing degrees of severity in those two cases - and I was at both games so am fully aware of how the events panned out- but my point is, some Rovers fans are *******, so are some City fans. Some FGR fans are ******* etc etc etc.

The vilification of any one particular club over such incidents is unnecessary and unhelpful. I'm 57 and was brought up on a council estate in east Bristol, pretty much every football fan of my age  and background has been involved to some degree or at least known of contemporaries or were- or even still are.

There is no defending it, People can try and  talk about the camaraderie etc and I really do get that. But whichever way you look at it, it's piss poor behaviour. Sometimes it's downright vicious and appalling - like the evets in the Eastend that day- and sometimes it's trivial and more cringeworthy like the events of last Saturday. Rovers are no better or worse than City, or any other club.

FWIW, when I saw the FGR fans running on I thought 'fair enough', then when I saw the gesturing form some (not many) I just thought 'Inadequate *****', which pretty much summed up my thoughts about the Rovers fans who responded.

People get very brave in a crowd, we have all seen fans goading each other from behind the safety of fences or police, many will see it as just banter and a bit of fun, I find it a bit cringeworthy - especially from middle aged blokes- but we are all different I guess.

BTW, I'm very impressed that most of you posting seem to know the various permutations of our promotion chances better than me! It's nice to know, that no matter how low we sink, we still irk you to some degree :)

FWIW, I'm pretty relaxed about it all, I think we will make the play offs , but I have a horrible feeling we will get turned over by Northampton who Barton was VERY uncomplimentary about when we beat them recently. We are a good side though, and if we do make the play offs, I would imagine most other teams would want to avoid us.

Or, reading it another way, City fans have a basic grasp of maths which seems to be beyond the average Fewer!

CSE Grade 3 I'll have you know!

I'll give some basic arithmetic a go though. If the year is 2022, City have been around for 40 years, is that right?

Could well be.

And in that limited amount of time, have grown a larger fan base, play at a more modern stadium and at a higher level than Rovers, in fact, for other half of these '40 years' City have finished in a higher league position in consecutive seasons.

Nothing like capitalising on the misfortune that fell upon us. And this is NOTHING like it!

Northampton, in the play offs?  What could possibly go wrong?

Just don't book the coaches before the 2nd leg this time as @Robbored won't be happy if you cancel.

One of my lowest points ever watching Rovers. I used to take it far too seriously back then and I was fighting back the tears at the end. Weirdly enough the journey home was one of the funniest ever, and we were only talking about it last week- but it is a VERY long story, so you'll have to wait until we are playing you again and I'll tell you over a pre match pint :)

Actually recorded the highlights as so keen to watch the demise of the Gas. Only problem was I recorded over the kids in Disneyland & you can only imagine the fallout from that.

Fair enough. I agree, every club has its fair share of idiots......

I'm from a council estate in East Bristol too (probably the same one as you), but the Gasheads I know there always try and take the moral high ground and it boils my piss.

Like you, I cringe at the pathetic boneheads. If people can't take banter for what it is then perhaps they'd be better off taking up boxing instead!

It's so tight, but Rovers are incredibly spawny (up until 2014 of course ;)) and they could just sneak into the automatic places.

Most Gasheads I know are looking forward to getting Swindon in the final at Wembley as they think it will be a real day for 'the boys' to come out and can't wait for it to 'go off big-time' on the M4. ?

What they mean by that Gert is they expect the engine of their Y-reg Escort to give out on the M4 and they can then regale their mates in Fishponds about how they were part of the "100,000 locked out".

They'll be out in force with their bad backs and Zimmer frames reminiscing about the Tote End days.

How very Panorama 1977 of them!

Think they will finish 3rd. They are the form team so would expect them to win their last two. Still if not its the play off's and will be my Rovers obsessed Gas Head brother-in-laws second match he has attended in 20 years since i have known him.

The other one was the other Wembley Play Off.

If the Slags do get Northampton, I'd be tempted to toddle up to Sixfields and watch.

Cheering for the Cobblers, naturally.

On second thoughts, Sixfields is a £4.50 dump of a stadium*, and Northampton is the very epitome of a "drive past" town, so maybe I'll save my money.

*But still nicer than the Slag's Estadio Go Outdoors

Sounds about right, I know plenty that are "die hard Gas" but never go, they seem to be rolling their sleeves up a bit more now tho to show off their Adam Ant pirate tattoo, mate of mine has been to 3 home games this season and was moaning last week as he couldn't get a ticket for FGR due to all the partimers being out?‍♂️

Yep unfortunately for me i am living in North Bristol, and must say they are more vocal than they have been for as long as i remember.  I guess they are feeling the excitement that us old ones felt when we won at Chester in 1984 to clinch promotion from the division that they currently occupy!!!  Jesus they are coming for us - seems to have taken them nearly 40 years and still not happened.
