Popular Post Jerseybean
Good day. This is the first of four consecutive games against teams from London. In the past couple of seasons we have, in my opinion, robbed QPR of points. Earlier in this campaign NW scored a break away winner in the 93rd minute to somehow leave us winning 2-1 and I recall last season us being outplayed by them away and yet coming away with another 2-1 victory! In our last eleven games against QPR have returned eight wins, two defeats and one draw! So tonight it’s Ashton Gate 745 pm under the lights and at this stage of the season our opponents are in contention for the play offs, sitting as they do in seventh place seven points better off than us. A tough test for sure. Their home game on Monday against Bournemouth saw the Cherries end their five-match winless run, with a 1-0 victory and go back to the top of the Championship. Andre Dozzell won’t feature against us as he was shown a second yellow card for his role in a melee in added time. After the game Mark Warburton was ‘incensed and bemused’ by a number of referee Keith Stroud’s decisions. Ilias Chair could miss out tonight after injuring his calf in the defeat by Bournemouth and Warburton has hinted that Albert Adomah is likely to start. With thanks to Davefevs here is a link to his excellent feature which he wrote for Loft for Words: https://www.fansnetwork.co.uk/football/queensparkrangers/news/56607 In May 2019 Mark Warburton was announced as their manager, on a two-year contract. He led QPR to victory against Stoke City in his first game in charge, becoming the first QPR manager to win his debut match since Neil Warnock in March 2010. To date he has a 38% win rate at QPR. While at Enfield, Warburton became a trader in London and also worked in the United States. Looking back on his time in the City, he said: "I was a currency dealer for the likes of Bank of America, AIG and RBS. I was getting up at 4:32 for 20-odd years, leaving the house at 4:52, getting the 5:02 train into Liverpool Street, at my desk at 5:45, getting home at 7pm and taking phone calls through the night and orders from New York City. I was well paid, good at what I did. There was a lot of risk, a lot of pressure. My personal turnover would be £1.5 billion to £2 billion a day". Warburton cites parallels between trading and football management, including teamwork, communication, competition and man management. Recent connections between us and them include Nahki Wells, who scored 20 times for them in 66 appearances while on loan (he has 16 for us in 80 games), Albert Adomah who played for us between 2010-2013, Luke Freeman who spent two-and-a-half years at Bristol City before joining QPR for an undisclosed fee in January 2017. He was named as the club's Player of the Year for the 2018-19 season. Bradley Orr signed for them in 2010 having made 229 City appearances. To see a very special goal we scored against them take a look here: https://twitter.com/i/redirect?url=https%3A%2F%2Ftwitter.com%2FOSIBpodcast%2Fstatus%2F1475033868935864324%3Fcxt%3DHBwWiIC92aPfr_goAAAA%26cn%3DZmxleGlibGVfcmVjcw%3D%3D%26refsrc%3Demail&t=1+1640594304377&cn=ZmxleGlibGVfcmVjcw%3D%3D&sig=5092fcfa502f3d9ea1fec3642920f846fc727272&iid=57a922f6c63d42e2b9d27148d3ba2b42&uid=115764113&nid=244+281088005 QPR in popular culture The BBC TV series Bottom featured the character Edward A. Hitler (played by Adrian Edmondson) as a supporter of the team. In the show, he once asked the barman of his local (called "The Lamb and Flag,") if it was true he had a trial with the team. Dick Head, the landlord replied that he was decked by Les Ferdinand for kicking the ball in his own net. He was expecting to get applause from his team mates, as he was unaware he had scored an own goal. The comedy detective series Boys From The Bush included the character Reg Toomer, an ardent QPR fan. Although set in Melbourne, the series ended in Hammersmith and included a scene inside Loftus Road. The BBC sitcom My Family features lead character Ben Harper (played by Robert Lindsay) as a QPR fan. In one episode he is seen watching a game on TV dressed in blue and white chanting "come on, you hoops!" Musicians Alan Wilder of Depeche Mode and Recoil, Nick Midson (formerly of Threshold), actress Daniela Denby-Ashe, Ian Gillan of Deep Purple, Mick Jones of punk band The Clash, the highly influential Big Audio Dynamite and latterly Carbon/Silicon, Glen Matlock of the Sex Pistols, Robert Smith of The Cure, Pete Doherty, of The Libertines and Babyshambles, Dave Kerr-Clemenson (Edison Lighthouse/White Plains) as well as Matador Records founder Gerard Cosloy, are all fans of the club. Doherty used to run a club fanzine, "All Quiet On The Western Avenue", and has made reference to them in his music and videos. Musician and comedian Bill Bailey is also a fan of Queens Park Rangers as is London Wasps and England rugby union player Dom Waldouck. Up and coming comedian Seann Walsh is a fan. The composers Michael Nyman, Gavin Bryars and John Tilbury are all QPR fans and were regulars at Loftus Road in the late 60s and early 70s. Paul Cassidy of six-piano ensemble Piano Circus is a fan of QPR and also deputy chairman of the Glasgow branch of the Queens Park Rangers Supporters Association. Actor Michael Crawford and former Genesis drummer and musician Phil Collins are self-confessed QPR supporters. Greek entrepreneur Stelios Haji-Ioannou, founder of the British low-cost airline easyJet, amongst other ventures, has previously spoken of his fondness for the club. Andrew Ridgeley of pop band Wham! was featured in a QPR kit in the video for "The Edge of Heaven". The club's former logo briefly appears in the video for Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly's video for "I-Spy". A 2012 documentary film The Four Year Plan, by Mat Hodgson, which is a revealing watch, portrayed the events surrounding Flavio Briatore and Bernie Ecclestone, after they took over the club in November 2007. I’ve gone a bit early with this as I’m thankfully out of solitary and currently waiting to board a flight at JFK airport, so will be back on the rock and with my family a bit sooner than first thought. Enjoy the game and let’s hope we can end 2021 with a good home performance and three points. COYR! 19 3 Quote Link to comment

We really have. Just a bit of fun but over the past 5 league games (so not counting the EFL cup tie that was 3-3 and pens) they have, on average, had twice as many shots against us as we have created. They've had 4.6 shots on target to our 3, and our xG is 1.1 v 2.0 for them. And yet, thanks to football being a silly game, we've scored 8 to their 5, and taken 12 points from the 15 on offer. Scandalous. Edited December 30, 2021 by ExiledAjax 1 Quote Link to comment
Major Isewater
Rather annoyingly when Mrs Isewater asked me if I was alright to invite friends round for dinner this week I said fine just not on a Tuesday or Wednesday night . Bless her she arranged a Thursday night so I will miss the match. Sing loud and proud. The lads need your support more than ever. 3 1 1 Quote Link to comment
Swede
Yes; unfortunately Major I've made the same mistake with a dinner party so instead of screaming vitriolic abuse at the plastic cockney opposition I will be discussing politics and the news of the day over a delightful bottle of Cairanne. 1 1 Quote Link to comment
DT The Optimist
The ‘real’ attendance tonight will be interesting….I think we all accept that bums on seats was really low for the Huddersfield game (no way the reported 18k with the usual season tickets counted attend or not)but I wonder if now Xmas is over fans will come out again… hoping for a great atmosphere tonight. 1 Quote Link to comment

It's a long way from France and surely M. Macron will present all sorts of hurdles for you to nip over to BS3 and back again. Surely you just tune in as usual but put your tv on pause and watch after your soiree. Bon apetit. 1 Quote Link to comment
Roadrunner
A gutsy defensive performance and a clean sheet. Then some one to run at their defense with a penalty given. An OG or a lucky one off the post, even a 30 yarder into the top corner 1-0 would do us all good as we go into 2022. COYRs. 2 Quote Link to comment
ralphindevon
Of the two home games coming up tonight’s promises to be the better of the two. A chance for a first double of the season and some good football tonight. I can’t remember the last time I enjoyed a Millwall at home game, in fact it will be 10 years and a day since we last beat them at home and there has been some absolute dross served up in the games in between. So with that in mind, I’ll probably go tonight but not on Sunday and then regret it afterwards. Quote Link to comment

Offside
I’m not particularly looking forward to this game. Our performances have been torrid and the defeat vs Huddersfield shows how poor we are compared to sides who are even half decent. Hopefully I’ll be proved wrong, but I’d happily take a point. Garland-sweden
Think its right time to play QPR, they have injuried players and one got a red card last game, Bournemouth 0-1. Albert will sure start. They are a good team but Think we will win 2-1. COYR 1 Quote Link to comment

And Its Smith
Minimum 3 points needed from tonight and millwall. Let’s hope we get them tonight! Would we all take 3 points from the 2 games if offered now? I would 1 Quote Link to comment

Means 1.5 ppg, which is above our season average of 1.17 ppg and so would represent significant improvement. 1 Quote Link to comment

I’m from the school that any point is a good point and take one game at a time, but agree with you - a win in either game will be a big boost. In our situation, any run of games, where we can pick up >1ppg will move us further away from getting dragged into a relegation battle (which I don’t think we will). Quote Link to comment

I must be honest, I had never heard of Cairanne, so had to look it up, not being sure if it was a red wine or a whisky (Cairn). I now know that it is a Cotes du Rhone - Villages, no less. The good news is that there does not seem to have been any dramatic news today, political or otherwise, so you should be able to relax and enjoy your dinner. Bon Appétit, and I hope you enjoy your wine. Quote Link to comment
