My poor chap comment was slightly in jest as you are correct in what you say, I was sat a few yards away in A block and he was a complete bell whiff with the Billy big balls attitude.  Wasn’t he rumoured to have been from Plymouth?

He was indeed from Plymouth

Turned out he had a not so perfect record for instances at Leeds games

I meant rugby is different as far as the mixing of fans goes. No segregation but I’ve certainly seen fighting between rival fans in the stands (and even more than football on the pitch). Never seen objects thrown at players though or players booed etc

That section is going to be closed if this carries on, a few complete idiots will ruin it for the majority.

That would be sad.

It would be the end for me.

The thought of sitting still in relative silence in the sanitized Lansdown, cramped dolman or boring South stand has no appeal.

Well that's embarrassing.

The guy probably shouldn't have celebrated as thugs do indeed exist, but people can't handle it and feel the need to use violence? Pathetic.

I see we still have some absolute Neanderthals as so-called supporters. Hopefully assault charges will be brought.

Watching Bristol at Ashton Gate has become god awful.

Boring, sanitized nonsense.

It was far better at the mem.

I was waiting for the clip to appear on here.

I’ve watched a few times now and I honestly couldn’t tell you what has happened.

Everyone else must have seen the other clips,

He was a ****. There was about five who were escorted out and the rest of the brum fans didn’t get a finger laid on them but this guy was goading everyone around him. Not a good idea even in the family section but in Dolman A you’re just asking for a pasting.

I didn’t realise the Lansdown stand had been sanatized any more than any other stand. Plus, you do know you’re allowed to sing anywhere in Ashton Gate, if you all had to move you could sing wherever you’re moved too.

May even improve the atmosphere.

Surprised at "just as many problems" as football?

But rugby is certainly not trouble free. There was a big fight between Exeter and Bristol fans in the South Stand which resulted in court appearances, Bristol Uni v UWE game where there was fighting in the concourse, and most bizarrely a Worcester fan unprovoked punched a woman in the face in the Atyeo a few years back.

No it wouldn’t. We’d end up with tiny pockets of fans all singing different things at different times which would stop an atmosphere developing.

It’s hard enough getting the whole of S82 to all sing the same song at the same time nevermind the whole ground who don’t sing at all.

Agreed, as per my previous post it’s a total fallacy that there isn’t trouble amongst rival fans at rugby, I’ve seen it myself on a number of occasions, some of it pretty bad actually in comparison to trouble at football these days.

It’s the reason me and a few other only really go away . Can’t commit to a season ticket due to work so can’t get a ticket for section 82 . I’m not paying between £30 to £40 just to sit on my ass all game .

Maybe, but I reckon there’s a lot of fans who would like to sing but nobody around them is, if some of s82 were spread around, say around the rest of the south stand, they’d be more inclined to.

Like at away games, even us Lansdowners are singing because we’re surrounded by singers.

Serious question though, im not suggesting it’s you but as you’re in amongst it, any idea why some fans feeling the need to chuck stuff at opposition players this season?

Bath v Gloucester games are like football in the 70s!

Moving on, I think the stewarding yesterday was pretty poor. Not just this incident, but I saw two guys bringing pints up from the bar and just sitting swigging them in full sight of a completely uninterested steward. Like another poster, I also witnessed someone smoking in the stands.

Boro game in the Lansdown a guy walked in at kick off with a pint in hand. Sat a few rows in front of me drinking it. Then just before HT took his empty back to the concourse, only to re-emerge a couple of minutes later, with ANOTHER pint!

If you you are in an area in any football ground with the home fans as an away fan. And you go up when your team ascites you are going to get battered simples. Get a bloody ticket where you should be sat. If you think it's ok to sit in others fans areas it is not. Why do the club, stewards, police not make this does not happen.

Sorry yes violence is unacceptable in football grounds. But what do you bloody expect if you sit with the opposing fabs and the celebrate when your team scores.

But why?????

Just because some brain dead ***** can't accept that other football fans follow a different team.........I just don't see why.

Does it happen in other sports?

Sat behind Bath fans at rugby without a problem, good banter and a respect for each other.

Banter is one thing, violence is another.

I can't comment on different areas of the ground as I'm in S82, but when I used to pay on the day the atmosphere was terrible wherever I was sat in the ground. Not everyone wants to sing and that's fine, but if you want to sing and you're not in S82 then it's a good idea to try. Maybe people do, but considering it never amounts to anything there's probably little demand. I'd like to see a pocket of home fans in the Atyeo as we had for Derby and Fulham in the last few seasons. I was there for both games and it felt like the old East End being next to the away fans. I'd sit/stand there over S82.

As for fans chucking stuff on the pitch, I'd imagine it's the 15 year old wannabe hooligans who strap on a pair of CP goggles and think they have a license to be a complete ****. Personally, I want the atmosphere to be as toxic as possible for away players but it's stupid to chuck cans etc on the pitch. Put that energy into giving them dogs abuse instead.

Banter is one thing, violence is another.

It's an emotional game, you taunt others who've likely had a few drinks after scoring and you're asking for trouble. It's disrespectful and people won't stand for it in their own ground. Not saying it's right, but it's completely moronic and asking for trouble. You wouldn't wind people up and then cry about getting smacked in a pub or anywhere else, as you'd behave sensibly. It's more a life thing than a football thing.

I thought it was actually illegal to buy a ticket for the section you are not assigned, famously a six year old was kicked out of Ashton Gate for wearing Leeds socks!

My personal opinion is, having sat in the opposing sections a few times, IS KEEP YOUR BLOODY GOB SHUT! If you decide to celebrate a goal while deliberately and willfully putting yourself in harms way, then you are guilty of incitement! If you take a battering then you knew that was a possible outcome.

Yeah sure, the blokes giving him a couple of right handers should show restraint and left it to stewards to chuck him out and police to charge him, but real life rules exist for a reason! The tosser in this situation is the knob who thought he could wind up several thousand people and not get hurt, particularly now, where everyone is on edge for obvious reasons!

Yeah, it’s certainly not easy to get things going.

it was much easier years ago, everyone was potd and if you wanted to sing you just stood as close to the middle of the east end as possible, then the singing would spread both ways from there.

Yes it's an emotional game, but no more emotional than the last game at Coventry of our first season back in the top division in 1977.

I sat next to a Coventry fan, he celebrated both goals as they went 2-0 up, we argued throughout the game and I celebrated our goals as we equalised at 2-2. At no time did I feel the need to throw punches at him even though I felt he was talking bollox most of the game.

At the end of the game when we had both survived relegation, we hugged each other and both went onto the pitch to celebrate with other fans of both sides.

What is it that makes things so different these days?

A unique one off game and circumstances thanks to the final outcome

And yes, I was there

Ok. I personally wouldn’t go out of my way to wind up a group of people when I’m on my own and then be surprised when things escalated. Forget football it’s just a stupid decision.

Something and nothing, it’s what can often happen when you don’t respect your surroundings and celebrate a goal in the  home end. Not condoning it but the Golden rule is sit on your hands and keep head down.

It really is a country to country thing. In Spain it's really not a thing with the exception of local derbies.  Then it really does get personal. If you do it at a Derby, we'll, you are injured or no longer in stadium.

However

I've seen barca fans celebrate in the Bernabeu home end to my shock.

I saw away frans openly wear away shirts in the home end of the Calderón. A first I must say.

In the last two week I've seen:

United fans openly celebrate in the wanda, and my first thought was, if this was at city you'd be having issues right now.

And slightly different, inter fans sat with their AC mates in the home end. Not a peep, not an issue.

.......................

I personally wouldn't do it as like you said its asking for trouble. Nor do I think it applies to every country though.

Every couple of minutes yesterday, a huge cloud rose from somewhere near the dugouts. Half the stadium must have seen it.
