Family and friends of West Ham players were attacked by rival supporters after a match in the Netherlands.

AZ Alkmaar fans broke through a fence and attacked visitors sat in a reserved section following the final whistle in the Europa Conference League semi-final.

A brawl ensued - and several West Ham players, including captain Declan Rice, tried to intervene.

Police and stewards were quickly on the scene to prevent further confrontation and calm was restored 10 minutes later.

West Ham manager David Moyes admitted that his players were angry following the incident.

Just read that the final is in Prague , that's fine and you can't argue UEFA wanting to move the Finals around Europe.
But both teams getting allocations of under 5k is ridiculous . The Stadium is clearly too small for a "showcase" game. There should be limits on qualifying criteria for a stadium 20,000 is not big enough for such a game. Also the finalists getting 50% of the places ? I guess all the corporate cling ons will enjoy their invites, probably watch about 30 minutes of the football and go to the free bars. Still, not about the football is it, definitely not about the fans.

Europe has a rather severe, and growing, hooligan problem.

Europe has always been sticky. Goes all the way back to the 80s. Went away with England a lot years ago.
Italia 90, Germany, Holland, France, even Sweden have been a battle field when football is on. Naples, Italy was the worse I saw.

Particularly in the Netherlands.

Games regularly get held yo or even abandoned.

Apparently there was trouble last weeK with away fans in the home end .

It could just be recency bias but it does seem like it’s been slightly worse in NL than the last few years, equally likely that’s not the case though. The games are being cancelled now because of the ultimatum they made that anything on the pitch = suspension of the game anything further and it’s gone.

There was indeed trouble last week too though not quite how you’re saying it. Without trying to condone the actions of either side it seems it’s not comparable (still poor and potentially it could have escalated to something like this but it’s seems as though it wasn’t quite the same/as bad). There were away fans in the home end but they were the players/clubs friends, family, and sponsors. Identical to the West Ham fans in Alkmaar last night.

This is from an article on the incident last week and, hopefully my translation isn’t total nonsense, essentially cups of cola/drink were thrown (so I assume either plastic cups or bottle without lids knowing what they’re like in prem stadiums?) which is clearly poor and not nice to experience & verbal abuse/possibly threats. They were then escorted out at HT so who knows whether it would’ve escalated to the scenes we saw in Alkmaar last night. If WHU had lost then maybe.

UEFA used to be a bit more fan orientated or at least fan friendly than this, moreso than modern FIFA for sure, not much these days by the sound.

Unlike Man City and my conflicting views there brilliant football and coaching vs the while sportwashing thing no problems here for me, no conflicted views. West Ham great academy, not huge spenders historically etc, certainly hope they win it. Man City v Inter I'm rather meh about, Chinese owned or partially Chinese owned vs Abu Dhabi etc.

Just seen the video of the 2 West Ham fans holding back what looks like 30 hooded AZ "Ultras" attacking the family stand.

Helms deep vibes.

Indeed, good job they were there stopping them getting up the stairs, stewards and police were nowhere to be seen at the time.

Massive respect for those two Hammers fans sending those Dutch lowlifes slinking off with their tails between their legs.

Reminds me of Monkey back in the day, beating several dozen demons single handedly with his trusty magic wishing staff.

Would love to see W Ham go on and lift the trophy next month.

I went to Upton Park many times! Some West Ham supporters used to get their Jollies charging the fence segregating home and visiting supporters and that would go on pretty much all match. All a bit worrying when there was a 100 of us on a Tuesday night.

Times have changed and the kind of behavior exhibited last night has no place anywhere, now and then. However I can’t help a wry smile remembering the chants of we are those bastards in Claret and blue as anyone with in touching distance got clobbered.

One of them a 58 year old, who recently had a hip replacement my weekend newspaper reliably informs me. ICF "Hip Replacement Squad" v Alkmaar Baby Squad. No contest. The ICF showing all their experience, they "set up" superbly, the Alkmaar mob tactically naive.

Yeah, that’s a ruddy scandal they’re playing that final at a stadium with a smaller capacity than Ashton Gate when the Hammers pull in 60,000 every week. Fiorentina are a big club too. Black market prices will be insane.

A mate who's in the West Ham away season ticket club and been to all but one of the away European ties this season missed out on an official ticket

But already been sorted in a bordering section

Sounds like a typically English match where majority of the ground will be there for the English side

Anyone else find it strange that "knollsy" is getting do much press coverage when the big guy in green and his mate are the ones sorting out the Dutch fans?  "Knollsy" is to the side throwing air punches!

Fair play to the guy in green, that's the hammers fan that dished it out!

I must admit I did wonder that too

I'm also curious who he is connected to, because wasn't that area for friends and family of the players?

I have to say some of the footage I have seen he seems a little overawed by it all

I'm drinking with a few Hammers tomorrow that go all over Europe, I will see what they say

The video I saw shows knollsy at the side throwing  a few lame air punches, then he gets clipped and ducks behind a security guy..I reckon most people think he is the big guy in the green who was throwing some big punches!
