Why at a pre-season friendly does it make it worse, what a odd comment

Because, to an extent, I can understand how some idiots can get carried away with themselves in the moment of something like a genuine local derby or another game. That might genuinely mean something.

Frankly I find your response to the OPa  far more 'odd comment'.

I hate closed season.

For the record one of the earliest chants I remember was Abervan! Against Cardiff. This one is a bit third rate by comparison. The kids will be fine, it’s the parents that struggle to cope.

When I asked My old man what that was, he said dunno son and I just ignored it!

The Aberfan chant was the one I just couldn’t comprehend, yet the majority of the East End appeared to be chanting it! Really sad indictment of society at the time. ?

It still goes on today.

'fans' some fans chant about Hillsborough, Munich, Bradford still.

Crowds at football are just a microcosm of society in general. It covers pretty much everyone.

Sadly we still have brain dead neanderthals that think it's 'big and hard' to chant about such things and generally act like ********* that have no regard for others.

I stopped going to away games unless I can get a ticket in hospitality or in the main stand.

It's literally impossible to avoid the ********* these days at away games.

What annoys me the most is when they have total disrespect and disdain for the elderly, disabled, children and families. Their own fans, some of which have been following the club for generations.

QPR away a few seasons back was my last away game. I just don't want to be around them or associated with them. As you all get treated pretty much the same, regardless.

Same for a few of my local watering holes. I have to socialise at chosen times to avoid the scum. Quiet village pubs now turn into coke dens at night. It all goes off. Nightmare. And it's getting worse.

Depends how far north and east you go. Go far enough in the right direction and you'll find things more to your liking. Mind, then you'll have to get up and set off earlier, and get back later, and spend so much longer on the roads and railways, you'll find you just can't be arsed.

Yes...you are right. Its now has got to the point of I can't be arsed anymore.

Will go to City home games when I want and watch my local non league team more often, as it's easier to get to and walk/park, very few idiots that are easy to avoid, and more fun tbh.

It's all a bit of a shame.

Exactly and that was really where I was going with my comment. Whatever unsavory chant gets sung these days, it pales into insignificance to the terrace war fare and out right intimidation that many of us grew up with. Players being carried off with broken legs to howls of abuse and every insult that you could think of hurled at the opposition supporters and players from the mid late 60s that I remember but long before that too

As however upsetting it is for parents, these days, to hear things that they would rather not their kids not hear, football has come an incredibly long way in my life time. Yes it should continue to strive toward being the best it can be and still has a long way to go, just look at the Euro final, but the u12s will ignore it. It’s up to parents then to to try and ensure their 16-20 year old doesn’t become one of the knobs!

I took my kids knowing they would hear this stuff.

And guess what - they have never repeated any of it.

Its about the parenting.

I also disagree with shielding children from things - they need to live in the real world.

Of course you take your kids to football knowing they will hear it, that's par for the course and the vast majority of chanting/singing falls into that category.

But singling out a bloke with his daughter in the crowd and calling him a paedo en masse just isn't on.

What blows my mind is that this happened at a meaningless pre season friendly!

You may be missing the point of pre-season.

Players getting fit, getting used to new formations etc etc? Maybe, but surely it's equally important our nutjob crew get their verbals aligned, knuckles hardened and new Columbian marching powder road tested.
