Just to clarify, for all those who have actually used the trains to get away to the stadium,I have never known any football specials to get away fans back home.

All trains that call at Falmer are service trains, thats why there is a queuing system after the games.

It takes approx three/four service trains to clear all the fans from Falmer station

I remember there being an issue with the train company a couple of years ago (because they are so useless), thousands of Villa fans were left trapped at the station because the train decided not to turn up.

is it Southern who runs it?

You're on fire today NTTDS.

Firstly, there's only 20 of us using trains to see City away. From Parson Street maybe, but there's a whole bigger universe with stations out there if you dare venture.

Secondly, modern train carriages accommodate between 125-145 passengers (cattle class) each. That line usually uses 4 carriage trains as most stations have short platforms (Falmer's was built extended.) Hence if everybody took a 'service' train it would require around 55 trains to empty a sold-out Falmer, not 3 or 4. They don't operate that many in a day. That's precisely why the club has to operate the additional 'football specials', with extra carriages, shuttling folks mostly back to Brighton where the longer platforms match those at Falmer. We've never had an issue getting away from the stadium as an away supporter using any of the trains supplied. The BTP prefer getting away fans into and out of Brighton Station asap so prioritize those specials. Personally, coming in via Lewes is the better option.

Have no ******* clue what you’re on about. How on earth would a football club hire train drivers? Do you expect them to own the trains as well?

Jeez. Bit touchy aren’t we.
It’s just throwing out a suggestion. If the train line and the timetable was specifically created to get fans to a football stadium, just putting out the thought that maybe it could be a club-controlled matter.

One more note.

Kieran Maguire says was called off at police request rather than anything, a risk game presumably.

Did a little more reading. Crystal Palace fan threw a Cup of coffee over Alan Mullery in a 1970s game so he decided to stick the v sign up at Crystal Palace fans! Plus he threw some coins, change on the floor and shouted- dunno if at the fans or opposition themselves- 'That's all you're worth!'

That and a series of incidents in 1970s led to the bitter rivalry between them now. Isn't that incitement to an extent?

According to Railstaff, the main railway industry rag .

"Typically it takes between nine and 12 months to become a qualified train driver"

so I wouldn't be straightforward.  Be great if we could run our oqn trains into Ashton Gate tho'.
